    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam current attenuator easily manufactured and capable of easily adjusting a beam current of charged particle beams.
      SOLUTION: This beam current attenuator 1 is provided with a metal plate 2 provided with a plurality of slits 4, and a supporting shaft 3 supporting the metal plate 2 and movable reciprocating in an axial direction. A plurality of slits 4 are provided at the metal plate 2 parallel with one another, and the width dimension of the slits 4 is continuously reduced toward the supporting shaft 3 along the longitudinal direction. Consequently, when the metal plate 2 is irradiated with the charged particle beams 5, the charged particle beams 5 pass through only the slits 4 but do not pass through other metal parts. The beam current can thereby be attenuated, and the width dimension of the slits 4 is changed by reciprocating the metal plate, thus changing the attenuation factor of the beam current.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing system capable of precisely analyzing the characteristic amount of an image even if an image input means or a subject to be imaged is damaged by radiation when the system is used in a radiation environment, thus ensuring a long life as to radiation-induced degradation. SOLUTION: An image of a fluorescent plate 2 not irradiated with a beam 1 is picked up using a camera 4 and a background brightness distribution 10 formed by processing the image using an image processing means is stored. An image of the fluorescent plate 2 with a luminous image 3 formed thereon by the beam 1 is picked up using the camera 4. The image of the fluorescent plate 2 picked up using the camera 4 is processed by the image processing means to form a twodimensional brightness distribution 6 corresponding to the luminous image 3. Also, using the previously stored background brightness distribution 10, defective pixels 7 in the two-dimensional brightness distribution 6 corresponding to the luminous image 3 are corrected and the characteristic amount of the luminous image 3 is extracted.
