CONSTITUTION:A circular ultrasonic motor 1 is constituted of a circular vibrator 2 and a circular moving body 3, and the vibrator 2 and the moving body 3 are brought into pressure contact with each other. The vibrator 2 is constituted of a metal body 5 stuck and fixed with a piezoelectric element 4. A cylindrical rotary water tank 6 is arranged on the inner periphery of the circular ultrasonic motor 1, and the partial outer periphery of the cylindrical rotary water tank 6 is integrally fixed with the moving body 3 of the ultrasonic motor 1. The moving body 3 in pressure contact with the vibrator 2 is rotated together with the cylindrical rotary water tank 6, and the holding torque corresponding to the product of the pressurizing force applied between the vibrator 2 and the moving body 3 and the friction coefficient, i.e., brake force, is generated when no electric power is fed. When the positive rotation and reverse rotation of the rotary water tank 6 are repeated, it is instantly rotated when the power is fed, and its rotation is instantly stopped when the power is cut off.

CONSTITUTION:In an ultrasonic motor, a disc-shaped piezoelectric ceramic element adheres to one main face of a disc-shaped elastic element 7 as a piezoelectric element 8, and a curable thin film layer 11 such as a thin film made, for example, of oxide, carbide such as SiO2, SiC, etc., is provided on the face of the other protrusion 10 in contact with a moving body 14. The body 14 is composed by applying a wear resistant frictional material 12 such as carbon fiber to an elastic material 13, and brought into pressure contact with the protrusion 10 of a vibrator 9 through the material 12. When an electric field is applied to the element 8 to drive it in this state, a traveling wave of the bending vibration in the circumferential direction of the vibrator 9 is excited, and the body 14 is rotatably moved by a frictional force. Thus, it can prevent a holding torque from rising due to a damage formed on the protrusion 10, and wear powder is reduced.

At this time, the motor is driven by the frictional force between the oscillating body 2 and the friction material 4 integrated with the moving body 3 and coming into contact with the travelling wave front of the oscillating body 2. Since the friction material 4 is constituted by a material for friction of liquid crystal polymer or the one containing filler and combined by liquid crystal polymer, abrasion resistance is improved.

As the lubricant 4, liquid lubricant or semi-solid lubricant is used. As a result, even if the lubricant 4 to reduce friction is placed on the surface between the stationary unit 2 and the moving unit 3 in contact with each other, a great driving force can be obtained and a device can be stably driven for a long time.
