    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium excellent in such characteristics as RF output, chroma output, running durability and still durability at high temp. and humidity or low humidity and suitable for use as a digital recording medium. CONSTITUTION:At least 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th layers are successively formed on a substrate. When the particle diameter (average particle diameter in the case of spherical particles or average major axis size in the case of acicular particles) of a filler contained by the largest weight among all fillers in the 1st layer, that in the 2nd layer, that in the 3rd layer and that in the 4th layer are represented by A (nm), B (nm), C (nm) and D (nm), respectively, the 4th layer is a magnetic layer and the relations of A> B and C>D are satisfied. When the crystallite size of a filter contained by the largest weight among all fillers in the 1st layer, that in the 2nd layer, that in the 3rd layer and that in the 4th layer are represented by (a) (nm), (b) (nm), (c) (nm) and (d) (nm), respectively, the 4th layer is a magnetic layer and the relations of a>b and c>d are satisfied.

    • PURPOSE:To provide the magnetic recording medium which is small in the coefft. of friction and prevents the degradation in RF output under a low humidity and the generation of jitters under a high temp. and high humidity by incorporating nonmagnetic powder having prescribed characteristics, etc., into the uppermost layer of plural constituting layers. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium is constituted by providing the plural constituting layers on a nonmagnetic base and incorporating the nonmagnetic powder having =6 Mohs scale into the uppermost layer thereof and the nonmagnetic powder having 0.15 to 0.30mum average grain sizes and having >=6 Mohs scale into at least one layer exclusive of the uppermost layer. The surface of the uppermost layer has the preferable surface roughness coupled with the effect of the polishing agent which is the nonmagnetic powder incorporated into the layers exclusive of the uppermost layer. In addition, the necessarily sufficiently smooth surface is obtd. The degradation in the RF output under the low humidity and the generation of the jitters under the high temp. and high humidity are thus prevented.
