The air conditioner simultaneously operates both the first compressor and the second compressor or singly operates one of them in response to power consumption, refrigerating capacity, or thermal load of the vehicle. In switching the driving source of the hybrid type compressor, the air conditioner controls the rotation speed of the electric motor so that compressor delivery volumes before and after the switching are substantially equal to each other with reference to the rotation speed of the prime mover for the vehicle. Based on the compressor input signal, discharge capacity of the compressor is controlled.

SOLUTION: This vehicular air conditioner is equipped with a ventilation duct having a blow-off outlet in the vehicle interior, a heat exchanger provided in the duct and connected to a variable displacement compressor capable of varying discharge displacement in response to a displacement control signal through a coolant circuit to cool air passing in the duct, a means for controlling heat exchanger ability to adjust the extent of cooling of the heat exchanger, and a means for controlling a target blow-off air temperature to control the temperature of air blown out to the vehicle interior to a prescribed temperature. The target value of the adjusted temperature of the heat exchanger by the means for controlling heat exchanger ability is controlled to a temperature obtained by deducting a temperature equivalent to a temperature rise caused when the air is passing in the duct from the target blow-off air temperature by the means for controlling target blow-off air temperature in this vehicular air conditioner.
