摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for readout by allowing an error correcting circuit to output an error state signal indicating whether an error has occurred after syndrome generation and then outputting readout data again according to whether there is an external request. SOLUTION: The error correction circuit 10 sequentially receives data of one sector read out of a memory array and a syndrome generating circuit 11 generates a syndrome according to them. An error decision circuit 12 checks whether the generated syndrome is all '0' to decide whether the readout data has an error. Further, a correction position information generating circuit 13 generates position information on the bit where the error is present from the generated syndrome. When the three bytes outputted from the correction position information generating circuit 13 all match one another, a coincidence detecting circuit 14 decides that the bytes have the error and outputs the readout data again according to whether there is an external request.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent erasure disturbance in a flash memory. SOLUTION: When a file system 101 is powered on, ECC error detection of flash memories 102 and 103 is performed. If an error is found during a read of data to a host, error detection regarding other sectors (sectors in the same mat) connected to the same source line with the sector where the error is found is performed. Further, the cumulative erasure time (or frequency) of each sector is counted and when one sector reaches a guarantee erasure frequency, ECC error detection is performed as to all the sectors in the same mat connecting to the same source line with the sector. This error detection is performed by using an ECC detecting circuit 1042 and an ECC generating circuit 1041 in combination.

Further, when a means informing the detection of abnormality to a user is provided at this time, replacement can be urged.

CONSTITUTION:A battery 2 is incorporated in a host system 1 in which a CPU 3, a memory 4, a peripheral circuit 5 and others are provided. The host system 1 transfers an assemblage of characters that is peculiar to a certain user to an external character RAM 12 in a printer 6 so that the printing for this user can be operated. A DC current is supplied from a power source 13 to the entire body of the printer 6. The external character RAM 12 is supplied with the DC current from the battery 2 in the host system 1 in parallel with the DC current from the power source 13. Reverse flow of the electric current from the printer 6 to the host system 1 is checked with a diode 16. Therefore, because of the voltage applied to the external character RAM 12 from the battery 2 in the host system 1, an external character font does not volatilize even in the case where electric supply from the power source in the printer 6 is cut off while the system is in operation.
