    • PURPOSE:To realize a thermal recording material having high sensitivity by using a compound represented by a specific formula in a state dispersed in water along with alkali metal alkylsulfosuccinate and/or polycarboxylate and/or polyvinyl alcohol with a polymerization degree of 1,000 or less. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by formula (wherein R1 - R4 are a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a halogen atom) is dispersed in a ball mill for 24hr, for example, along with an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (polymerization degree : 500) and sodium 4-methylpentyl-sulfosuccinate and an aqueous solution of sodium polycarboxylate to obtain a dispersion. An electron donating colorless dye dispersion and an electron acceptive compound dispersion are mixed with said dispersion and a zinc stearate emulsion is further added to the dispersion to obtain a thermal color forming layer coating solution. This coating solution is applied to fine paper using a coating bar and, after drying, calender treatment is applied to the coating layer to obtain a thermal recording material.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material with high sensitivity, favorable shelf stability, and good head matching properties by providing a thermal color- forming layer containing a specific ether compound on a substrate having an oil absorptiveness of 10 sec. or less as specified by JIS-P8130. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal recording material mainly composed of an electron donative colorless dye and an electron accepting compound, a thermal color- forming layer is provided on a substrate having an oil absorptiveness of 10 sec. or less as specified by JIS-P8130. In the thermal color-forming layer, a specific ether compound shown by a general formula I is contained. In the formula, R1, R2 represent hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, and halogen atom, and X represents branched alkylene group. The ether compound shown by the formula I has a melting point of 70 to 150 deg.C, and 1,2-bis-(3- methoxyphenoxy)phenoxypropane or the like can be used therefor. The oil absorptiveness of the substrate is preferably 10 sec. or less. The oil absorbing substrate can be obtained by such a means as that an undercoat layer mainly composed of a high-oil absorbing pigment is formed on a substrate loading a high-oil absorbing pigment therein; or a porous high-molecular film, such as a microfilter, is used for the substrate.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a multicolor recording method using an inexpensive recording material, by bringing an electrondonative dye precursor and an electron- acceptive compound of a recording material into a color reaction with each other, and irradiating a required part of a color image thus formed with light to cause a change in hue through light-induced fading. CONSTITUTION:A multicolor recording method comprises bringing an electron- donative dye precursor and an electron-acceptive compound capable of a color reaction with the dye precursor, which are incorporated in a recording material, into the color reaction with each other, and irradiating a required part of a color image thus formed with light to cause a change in hue through light- induced fading. In this method, thermal recording and optical recording are carried out in separate systems, so that the boundary between the different hues obtained is clear. This method has the merit that the recording material used therein is quite the same as a general thermal recording material except that an electron-donative dye precursor for forming a coloring matter which is discolored or faded by light is used.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance printing dot reproducibility with a small quantity of printing energy and enhance sensitivity by a method wherein a coating liquid for forming a heat-insulating layer comprising a foaming agent and a thermoplastic high molecular weight substance as main constituents and a coating liquid for forming an intermediate layer comprising a pigment and a high molecular weight binder as main constituents are provided as coating liquid layers on a base, followed by drying, and a coating liquid for forming a thermal recording layer is applied thereto, followed by drying. CONSTITUTION:A coating liquid A comprising a foaming agent capable of generating a gas when being heated and a thermoplastic high molecular weight substance as main constituents and a coating liquid B comprising a pigment and a high molecular weight binder as main constituents are applied in the coating liquid state to a base so that the two coating liquids are not mixed with each other and the coating liquid A makes contact with the base, followed by drying at a temperature not lower than the gasification temperature of the foaming agent. To an undercoat layer thus provided, a coating liquid for forming a thermal recording layer is applied, and is dried. At the time of drying, foaming occurs after the solidification of the binder in the upper layer of the coating liquid B is finished, so that the smoothness of the undercoat layer is maintained even after completion of the foaming reaction. Therefore, the coating amount of an intermediate layer can be reduced, and the effect of a heat-insulating layer can be fully displayed, so that it is possible to enhance printing dot reproducibility with a small quantity of printing energy and to impart higher sensitivity to a thermal recording sheet.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance thermal responsiveness and dot reproduction characteristics, by sequentially providing a first undercoat layer comprising hollow particles, a second undercoat layer comprising an organic compound having a specified melting point and a pigment, and a thermal color forming layer, on a base in a laminate form. CONSTITUTION:Hollow particles to be incorporated in a first undercoat layer may be formed of, for example, a glass, a ceramic or a plastic. An organic compound having a melting point of at least 50 deg.C to be added to a second undercoat layer is preferably an ether, ester or amide compound of any of formulas (I)-(IV), whereas a pigment is particularly preferably one which has an oil absorption specified by JIS-K5101 of at least 40cc/100g. In providing a thermal color forming layer, a color former and a color developer are dispersed in an aqueous solution of a water-soluble high molecular weight compound, and are mixed with a sensitizer added thereto, then the oil-absorptive pigment is added to the resultant mixture, and if required, a surfactant, a binder, a wax, a metallic soap, an anti-oxidant, a UV absorber or the like is added to the mixture to obtain a coating liquid for forming the thermal forming layer. The coating liquid is applied to the undercoat layer, followed by drying and calendering to impart smoothness, whereby a thermal recording material can be obtained.
