By this constitution, the reversible thermal recording material capable of forming and erasing in good contrast and capable of holding an image stable with the elapse of time under daily living environment can be obtained.

SOLUTION: The reversible thermal recording material contains, on a substrate, a reversible heat-sensitive composition composed of a dye precursor, and a reversible developer causing a reversible change of color tone in the dye precursor according to a difference in a cooling speed after heating. The reversible developer has a spacer group not containing a hydrogen bond association group between a phenol group and the hydrogen bond association group, and a peak of heating is not observed in the process of a temperature rise in DSC measurement of a colored mixture which is obtained by rapidly cooling the composition after it is melted by heating.

SOLUTION: In the reversible heat sensitive recording material having a colorless or light-color dye precursor and a reversible developer, which develops reversible color tone change in the dye precursor due to the variation in cooling speed after heating on a support the material includes at least one kind of a compound having a cyano group, a hydrogen bonding group and a hydrocarbon group in a molecule as a decolorizing accelerator, especially represented by formula (1) R1-(Xa-R2)n-C≡N, wherein Xa represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or a bivalent group having a -CONH- bond, at both the terminal ends of which no hydrocarbon group is included as a minimum constitutional unit, R1 represents a 1-24C monovalent hydrocarbon group, R2 represents a 1-18C bivalent hydrocarbon group and n represents an integer from 1 through 4 under the state that R2 and Xa may well be the same or different from each other under the condition that n is repeated twice or more.
