    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display device having a less leaked current, less consumed power and preferable picture quality, and to provide a method for controlling the device. SOLUTION: The active matrix type liquid crystal display device includes a pixel array having a plurality of pixel parts, independently controlled gate lines disposed in the pixel array, and source lines disposed in the pixel array and supplied with signals in positive and negative polarities, wherein each pixel part includes a plurality of transistors connected in series and selectively connecting a pixel electrode to the source lines and connecting to the gate lines via the respective gates. A potential is imparted to a first gate line, the potential near the potential of causing minimum leakage of pixel charges when the pixel electrode potential is held in positive polarity; and a potential is imparted to a second gate line the potential near the potential of causing minimum leakage of pixel charges when the pixel electrode potential is held in negative polarity.
