摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retain the function of the airtightness and provide high electric current efficiency by using a specified chemical agent containing a hydrogen storage alloy for producing an auxiliary electrode to be electrically connected with an anode. SOLUTION: This storage battery is constituted of a casing container 1, a cover 2, a packing 3, a nickel hydroxide-based cathode 4, a metal halide anode 5, a separator 6 impregnated with an electrolytic solution, an auxiliary electrode 7 for consuming oxygen, and a compression spring 8. The auxiliary electrode 7 is produced by using graphite, carbon black, a PTFE, a specified wt.% of a hydrogen storage alloy and electrically connected with the anode. While considering a three-phase boundary necessary for consuming oxygen, the auxiliary electrode is produced and the infiltration of hydrogen is made possible and high electric conduction performance is retained, so that this electric current efficiency is heightened, moreover retaining airtightness of the cell inner pressure.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent generation of static electricity due to friction likely when a catalyst plug screwed into a battery jar lid is to be removed. CONSTITUTION:A polypropylene sheath 3 where a screw part 1 and the other part non-threaded 2 are formed consolidated is made in a single piece by means of an injection molding. Carbon or metal powder is included in the polypropylene so that the volume resistivity becomes below 10 OMEGA.cm. The main portion of the peripheral surface of the non-threaded part 2 is enclosed with a polypropylene cover 4 whose volume resistivity is over 10 OMEGA.cm. The sheath 3 is fitted with an explosion protective filter 5, and the outside and inside of the sheath are in communication through this explosion protective filter. Because no leak current flows to the main portion of the peripheral surface of the part 2, a high safety is ensured.

Thereby, since the separator 3 is made to have a strong capability to support electrolyte, low gas permeability is shown in the battery with the electrolyte installed, and drying is prevented, so that a long life time can be achieved in a persistent cycle operation.

The electrode group 2 includes an auxiliary negative electrode surrounded by two external negative electrodes 4' bonded to the recombination electrode 6 connected to the spacer 8.

The rate of partly-hydrophobic part in the mat(s) is determined by the mixture ratio of hydrophobic and non-hydrophobic fibers. If the storage battery gas explodes, the explosive pressure wave is absorbed by a spring action caused by compressing the mat fibers of the fiber mat(s), thereby reducing the shock. Hence, the damage of explosion can be prevented by a simple means.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent decrease in electrolyte so as to enhance the life characteristic of a sealed lead-acid battery by making the number of negative plates greater than that of positive plates by two or more, and disposing positive plates adjacent each other at other than both ends of the group of pole plates, and disposing an acid resistant, nonconductive thin plate between the adjacent negative plates. CONSTITUTION:In a group 4 of pole plates, eight negative plates 2 are used for six positive plates 1. Negative plates 2 are located at both the right and left ends of the group 4 of pole plates and two negative plates 2 are also located adjacent each other at the center of the group and an acid-resistant, oxidization-resistant thin plate made from nonconductive polypropylene or the like is disposed between the adjacent negative plates. A separator 3 is sandwiched between the plates 1, 2 and they are stored in a battery jar and a predetermined amount of sulfuric acid electrolyte is poured into the jar and an opening is covered with a lid to provide a pealed lead-acid battery. The thin plate 6 divides the group of pole plates into two blocks and causes oxygen gas generated from the pole plate 1 to be readily introduced up to the center pole plate 2, which then absorbs the gas; therefore, dissipation of the oxygen gas is prevented even during continuous charging and the life characteristic of the battery can be enhanced.
