    • PURPOSE:To obtain naphthalene completely free from organic sulfur compound easily in high yield, by distilling crude naphthalene added with mono ethanolamine, collecting the fraction having a distillation temperature of lower than the boiling point of said amine, cooling the fraction and separating the precipitated crystal. CONSTITUTION:Crude naphthalene, especially a coal tar-based crude naphthalene is added with monoethanolamine and distilled, and the fraction having a distillation temperature of lower than the boiling point of said amine, preferably a fraction having a boiling point of about 171 deg.C under normal temperature and pressure condition is collected. The fraction is cooled and the precipitated naphthalene is separated to obtain sufficiently refined naphthalene useful as a raw material of pharmaceuticals, dyes or various organic syntheses with simple procedure in high yield and efficiency. The organic sulfur compound such as thionaphthene inhibiting the naphthalene derivative synthesis reaction and lowering the quality of the product can be removed completely from naphthalene by this process. The amount of the amine is preferably >=4 times mol (>=2 times wt) of naphthalene.

    • PURPOSE:In separating a conjugated diolefin from a hydrocarbon mixture by extractive distillation, to remove a dimer of the compound, by blending part of the hydrocarbon mixture from which the compound is removed with part of a solvent containing the dimer of the compound, and water, allowing the blend to stand. CONSTITUTION:A gaseous C5 fraction is sent from the conduit 1 to the first extractive distillation column 2, an extraction solvent is fed from the conduit 3 to it. As a conjegated diolefin comprising mainly vapor-phase isoprene is being absorbed, it is made to flow downward. The solvent having absorbed the diolefin is sent from the conduit 4 to the second extractive distillation column 6, the solvent is added from the conduit 8 to it, extractive distillation is carried out, and isoprene is obtained from the conduit 9. A solvent containing a dimer of the conjugated diolefin is taken out from the pipe 7, part of the solvent and part of a fraction from the pipe 5, from which the diolefin is removed, are stirred by the conduit 7, sent to the separating tank 18, allowed to stand, the dimer is transferred to the phase of C5 fraction, and the solvent is recycled by the pipe 19. EFFECT:A dimer of conjugated diolefin can be removed without requiring a large facility and a large amount of energy.
