SOLUTION: This coordinate detector comprises a resistance film, a common electrode applying voltage to the resistance film, a voltage supply part applying voltage to the common electrode, and is adapted to detect a contact position coordinate of the resistance film by generating a potential distribution in the resistance film by applying voltage from the voltage supply part to the common electrode to supply a potential from the common electrode to the resistance film, and detecting the potential of a contact position of the resistance film. The detector further comprises a common electrode-resistance film insulating film arranged between the common electrode and the resistance film and having a potential supply part for supplying the potential from the common electrode to the resistance film.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact input apparatus for providing a linear response throughout an active area. SOLUTION: This contact input apparatus includes a substrate, a first pattern including a relatively low resistance material disposed on a first surface of the substrate and substantially along an outer perimeter thereof, and a second pattern including a relatively low resistance material disposed on the first surface of the substrate and extending in substantially parallel relationship with the first pattern along an inner perimeter separately spaced inwardly from the outer perimeter of the substrate. The first and second patterns together define a resistive zone therebetween as an area on the first surface. The resistive zone includes a plurality of discrete resistive pathways that extend between the first and second patterns, and the resistive pathways include one or more materials that have a relatively lower electrical resistivity value than the remainder of the resistive zone.
