    • PURPOSE:To freely change the mixing and compounding ratio between dissimilar materials, by constituting a thermal spraying wire of a stranded wire consisting of >=3 pieces of hollow wire and also by filling respective hollow parts of one of more pieces of the hollow wire with a wire dissimilar to the hollow wire. CONSTITUTION:For example, a thermal spraying wire 1 is formed as a stranded wire by using three pieces of hollow copper wire 2, e.g., of pure copper having about 3.2mm outside diameter and about 2.4mm inside diameter and four pieces of copper - stainless steel wire 4 prepared by filling the hollow part of the above copper wire 2 with stainless steel wire 3, e.g., SUS316 by JIS. When this thermal spraying wire 1 is thermally sprayed on the surface of a steel sheet 5 as a base material, e.g., JIS-S45C, by an arc thermal spraying method, a mixed and compounded thermally sprayed layer in which respective thermally sprayed and laminated grains 3a and 2a of the stainless steel wire 3 and the copper wire 2 are laminated in the ratio of 1 to 3 can be formed. Accordingly, by changing respective numbers of the stainless steel wire 3 and the copper wire 2, the mixing and compounding ratio between both can be changed.

    • PURPOSE:To thermal-spray SiC or Si3N4 by thermal-spraying the material obtained by depositing a low-m.p. oxide-based ceramic on the surfaces of the particles of ceramics such as SiC and Si3N4 at the time of forming the title thermal-spraying ceramic layer of the SiC, Si3N4, etc., having excellent hardness and resistance to heat and wear on the surface of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The thermal-spraying ceramic layer of the carbide and nitride such as SiC and Si3N4 having excellent hardness and resistance to heat and wear is formed on the surface of the parts of an internal-combustion engine such as a piston to be slid at high temp. In this case, a substrate thermal- spraying layer 5 of an alloy such as Ni-Al and Ni-Cr having a thermal expansion coefficient intermediate to those of a base material 1 of an Al alloy, etc., and the above-mentioned ceramic is formed on the surface of the base material 1. The material obtained by depositing the fine powder of the oxide-based ceramic such as Al2O3 and spinel on the powder of SiC or Si3N4 having the higher m.p. than the ceramic is thermal-sprayed thereon. When the Al2O3 8, etc., are melted and resolidified, the powder 7 of SiC or Si3N4 having a high m.p. and easy to sublimate is bound, and the thermal-spraying layer 6 of SiC or Si3N4 can be formed on the substrate layer 5 with excellent adhesive strength.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of nonformed parts to a hard film and also to prevent occurrence of flaws such as crack, fracturing, etc., by previously chilling the surface of a cast iron and then by forming a hard film at the time of forming a hard film of TiC, TiN, etc., on the surface of a cast iron so as to improve wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:In order to improve wear resistance at least in a part of the surface of machine parts made of cast iron, a layer of hard ceramics such as TiC, TiN, etc., is formed by a CVD or PVD method. At this time, cracking and fracturing occur to the hard ceramic layer when the cast iron it self, as a substrate, is soft and, moreover, there are cases where local nonformation of hard ceramic layer occurs to the graphite part at the surface of the cast iron. For the purpose of removing the above defects, the required part of the cast iron 1 is previously subjected to remelting by means of laser, electron beam, plasma arc, etc., and the to solidification by rapid cooling to undergo formation of a chilled layer 2, on which the hard ceramic layer 3 of TiC, TiN, etc., is formed by means of an ion plating method, a plasma CVD method, etc.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a piston having partially improved resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue by forming an alloyed cast iron layer in which Ni is incorporated at a specific ratio and block graphite is crystallized and dispersed to the prescribed section in the piston head part of the cast iron piston down to an adequate depth. CONSTITUTION:Ni or Ni-Fe alloy is disposed onto the surface in the section such as hot spot part 4 at the peripheral edge of a recessed ejection port 3, etc. in the piston head part 2 of the cast iron piston 1 and high-density energy such as laser is irradiated thereon from above. The Ni, etc., disposed on the surface and the base material surface layer made on cast iron thereunder are thereby quickly melted and quickly solidifed. The alloyed cast iron layer which contains 10-60wt% Ni and has the matrix consisting of austenite or essentially consisting of austenite and in which the block graphite is uniformly dispersed and crystallized is thereby formed into the above-mentioned hot spot part 4 down to >=0.2mm depth from the surface and the cast iron piston having the improved resistance to thermal impact and thermal fatigue in said section for an internal combustion engine is obtd.
