    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide visual field angle type liquid crystal display device having axisymmetrically oriented liquid crystal regions having excellent display quality. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device have a pair of substrates at least one of which are transparent, a liquid crystal layer which is held between a pair of these substrates and sealing regions 34 which enclose this liquid crystal layer by adhering a pair of the substraets to each other. This liquid crystal has the liquid crystal regions formed regulars so as to correspond to each of plural picture element regions 37 and the polymer regions which substantially enclose the liquid crystal regions. The liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal regions are axisymmetrically oriented. In such a case, the liquid crystal layer has further plural pseudo picture element regions 47 in the regions between the display regions 32 having the plural picture element regions 37 and the sealing regions 34, and has the liquid crystal regions regularly formed so as to correspond to each of the plural pseudo picture element regions 47 and the polymer regions substantially enclosing these liquid regions.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent display quality and to reduce the dependency of display quality on a visual angle direction by allowing axially symmetric orientation domain to have specified aspect ratio. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element 30 is provided with a liquid crystal layer 32 consisting of a liquid crystal area 23 surrounded by high molecular area 24 between a pair of base plates 31a and 31b. The pair of base plates 31a and 31b is provided with an electrode for impressing voltage on the liquid crystal layer 32 on the liquid crystal layer 32 side thereof. The liquid crystal area 23 is the axial symmetric orientation domain and the aspect ratio of the domain is set larger than 1:1 and equal to or under 1:6. By impressing the voltage on liquid crystal molecules LC oriented to be axially symmetric, the liquid crystal molecules LC are oriented to be parallel with the direction of electric field while keeping the axial symmetricity. Thus, apparent transmissivity is averaged in all the visual angle directions (for instance, in the visual angle directions A and B), so that the dependence ability of the display quality on the visual angle direction is reduced.

    • PURPOSE: To dispense with visual angle dependence so as to provide a wide angle of visibility by arranging areas having different phase separation structures each other in an oriented film made of non-compatible polymer alloy and varying orientation of liquid crystal in every area. CONSTITUTION: On an opposed face, on which a transparent electrode film 5 and an oriented film controlling thin film 6 are formed, of a glass substrate 2, a polymer alloy oriented film 7 is formed and covers the whole surface. The oriented film 7 is formed in such ways as mixing two kinds of polyimide RN 713 and RN 739 which are non-compatible with each other in n- methylpyrolidone so as to turn them into polymer alloy, applying the polymer alloy by a spin coating method, and burning it after evaporating a solvent. The oriented film 7 formed in this way has a phase separation structure on the basis of relation between surface free energy of the two kinds of polyimides constituting the polymer alloy and surface energy of its substrate phase. As a result, intensive visual angle dependence, which is observed when liquid crystal is oriented in one direction, is dispensed with, so that a wide angle of visibility can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve a display grade by obtaining optimum small spherulites even on a plain surface. CONSTITUTION:Phase sepn. of crystalline high polymers from each other after blending is resulted in some cases blending if straight chain crystalline high polymers and crystalline high polymers having branches are blended and are used for oriented films 8, 11 and if the crystalline high polymers to be blended are different aggregate polymers and, therefore, crystalline copolymers alternately having respective repeating units are added to these polymers in order to prevent such phase sepn, by which compatibility is enhanced. The molecular motion is suppressed by the crystalline high polymers having branches in such a manner and acts as a crystal nucleus, by which more crystal nuclei than usual are generated. The adjacent spherulites are hindered in growth with each other at the time of spherulite growth and the spherulite diameters are reduced. Then, the optimum smaller spherulites are realized even in the case of the smooth surface. The liquid crystal display element having an improved contrast ratio and high display grade free from a rough feel is thus obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device which is improved in mechanical strength including impact resistance and is improved in visual angle characteristic, contrast and color reproducibility and the process for production thereof. CONSTITUTION:Color filters 13 having plural color regions 13R, 13G, 13B are formed on a glass substrate 12. Light shielding films 28 are formed at the peripheral edges of the respective color regions 13R, 13G, 13B of the color filters 13. Between the respective color regions 13R, 13G, 13B are constituted as light transmission regions 29 which allow the transmission of both of visible light and UV rays. A protective film 38 having a flat surface is formed to cover the color filters 13 and an acrylic negative type resist is patterned on the protective film 38 in such a manner that the film thicknesses of the liquid crystal layers 15 attain tR, tG, tB, respectively in correspondence to the respective color regions 13R, 13G, 13B of the color filters 13. As a result, high polymer insulating layer 14 having a rugged shape is formed on the liquid crystal layer 15 side surface. A transparent counter electrode 16 consisting of ITO is formed on the high polymer insulating layer 14. The filter substrate 21 is thus constituted.
