    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress faulty cleaning caused by reattachment of toner from a cleaning member to an image carrier in an image forming apparatus employing an electrostatic cleaning device.SOLUTION: An electrostatic cleaning device comprises: a normal charged toner cleaning brush roller 107 which contacts with an intermediate transfer belt 8; and a reverse charged toner cleaning brush roller 104 provided in the upper stream thereof. After an image forming operation, the normal charged toner cleaning brush roller is separated from the intermediate transfer belt while the intermediate transfer belt is rotated in the reverse direction from the image forming operation so that a counter area a3 of the intermediate transfer belt moves to the upper stream than the reverse charged toner cleaning brush roller. Thus, the normal charged toner cleaning brush roller is in a separation state when the image formation is started, and is contacted with the intermediate transfer belt after starting to rotate.
