    • PURPOSE:To make the axes of upper and lower dies coincide with each other in a glass forming apparatus at all times and to improve the yield of products by fixing the upper plate to a press shaft without directly bonding a plunger shaft provided with the upper die to the press shaft, attaching suspending rods to the upper plate, and making a lower plate movable with respect to the upper plate. CONSTITUTION:The lower die 7 for forming is placed in a furnace 8 for forming a glass article, and a glass blank 30 heated to a temp. close to the softening point is put in the die 7. The upper die 25 for forming is suspended from the plunger shaft 24. The press shaft 15 for pressing the upper die 25, an upper plate 17 fixed to the shaft 15 and a lower plate 26 connected to the plate 17 with freely swingable suspending rods 20 each having a spring 29 are placed over the furnace 8, and the upper end of the plunger shaft 24 is fixed on the lower plate 26. When the glass blank 30 is press-formed into a prescribed shape with the upper and lower dies 25, 7, the axes of the dies 25, 7 are automatically made to coincide with each other at all times by moving the lower plate 26 connected to the upper plate 17 with the movable suspending rods 20, so the production of defective formed glass articles is reduced.

    • PURPOSE: To mass produce molded glass articles by using an easy apparatus, by leading a glass ribbon in a softened state in transferring to the tops of plural vacuum molds on an endless conveyor moving at almost the same speed as the glass ribbon.
CONSTITUTION: A base glass material 2 molten in a melting furnace is molded into a glass ribbon 5 of a given thickness by rolls 3 and 4 and then led to the tops of plural molds 7, mounted on an endless conveyor 9 by feed rolls 6, and fed to the downstream side by the endless conveyor 9 according to the feed rate of the glass ribbon 5. Cutting blades 8 having tip sharp edges to be pressed into the glass ribbon 5 by a pressurizing apparatus for cutting the glass ribbon 5 are provided above the plural molds 7, and fed according to the feed rate of the glass ribbon 5 in the same way as the molds 7. The glass ribbon 5 led to the tops of the molds 7 is closely adhered to the molds 7 and molded by the discharge of air from the space between the molds 7 and the glass ribbon 5 through vacuum suction holes 14 along the molds 7, and the cutting blades 8 are simultaneously pressed into cutting positions of the aimed molded articles 10 and then raised after a while.

    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a formed glass article having reinforced thin-wall part, by placing a reinforcing glass plate to the part of a glass plate corresponding to the part having large curvature, heating the glass plate at the forming temperature, and carrying out the vacuum-forming. CONSTITUTION:A plate glass 5 is heated at a temperature somewhat lower than the softening temperature. A piece of reinforcing glass 3 having a thickness of >=1mm. and thinner than the plate glass 5 is preheated nearly at the same temperature as the glass 5, and placed on the part of the plate glass 5 corresponding to the large curvature part of the vacuum-molded article. The plate glass 5 is placed on the forming mold 6 heated at nearly the same temperature as the preheat temperature of the glass 5, and its circumference is clamped with the clamping frame 4. The resistance heater 2 of the heat source 1 above the forming mold 6 is electrified to heat and soften the glass plates 3, 5, and the vacuum valve at the bottom of the mold 6 is opened to exhaust the air between the glass 5 and the mold 6 through the suction hole 7 and the suction chamber 8. The glass 5 is vacuum-formed and the glass 3 is welded to the thin-walled part of the formed article by this procedure.

    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a formed glass article having small thickness variation, by heating the part of a plate glass corresponding to the large curvature part of the formed article at a lower temperature than the part corresponding to the small curvature part of the article, and forming the glass by vacuum- forming. CONSTITUTION:A plate glass 3 preheated at a temperature somewhat lower than the softening point is placed on the forming mold 4 heated at nearly the same temperature as the glass 3, and its circumferential part is clamped with the clamping frame 2. The glass is heated and softened with the heat source above the mold 4, wherein the parts 1-b and 1-b' of the heat source opposite to the parts of the glass plate corresponding to the large curvature parts 10 of the formed article is heated at a lower temperature than the parts 1-a, 1-c and 1-c' opposite to the other parts of the glass 3 corresponding to the small curvature parts of the formed article. The vacuum valve 6 at the bottom of the mold 4 is opened, the air in the mold 4 is exhausted through the suction hole 5 and the suction chamber 7, and the plate glass 3 is vacuum-formed.
