    • PURPOSE:To obtain dischargeable purified water with high efficiency, by adding an NO2 salt to waste water containing NH4 , polythionic acid, S-N compounds, etc., oxidizing the waste water with sludge containing sulfur bacteria and nitrifying bacteria, and then reducing nitrogen compounds in the waste water to N2 gas. CONSTITUTION:Waste water containing NH4 , NO2 , NO3 , polythionic acid and S-N compounds is introduced into a disposal vessel 3.The waste water in the vessel 3 is kept at pH about 4 or less and a temperature of about 60 deg.C or higher. NO2-N, having a concentration at least equal to an expected N concentration of the S-N compounds, is fed to the waste water, and the waste water is agitated to decompose the S-N compounds into N2 or N2O gas and SO4 . The treated waste water is let flow into a pH-adjusting vessel 4, where the waste water is neutralized at pH about 6-8. Thereafter, the waste water is oxidized by sulfur bacteria in an aerobic disposal vessel 11 containing a sulfur compound, e.g. SCN- or the like, as a nutritious source. the waste water is further introduced into an anaerobic denitrifying vessel 2 containing denitrifying bacteria, where the waste water is agitated and fluidized to reduce most of NO2 to N2 gas.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the BOD load of a circular plate to a large extent and enhance the treatment efficiency by interposing the solid-liquid separating operation in case of biologically treating waste water by a rotary circular plate. CONSTITUTION:In case of biologically treating waste water by plural rotary plates 1, the solid-liquid separating operation is carried out in one or more place between a rotary circular plate. That is, when original waste water is flowed into a contact tank 2 from a line P1, sewage is purified because microorganism addered to a rotary circular plate 1 and the sewage is contacted in a rotary condition and a large amount of excessive sludge is generated. Subsequently, a mixed liquid P2 of the excessive sludge and the sewave and flowed into a solid-liquid separating tank 3 and the separated excessive sludge P4 is exhausted out of a system and the supernant P3 is again flowed into a contact tank 4. Therefore, because the excessive sludge is not blended into the supernant P3, BOD is largely reduced as well as BOD load applied to a contact tank 4 becomes low and the treating property is enhanced to a large extent.

    • PURPOSE:To recover and utilize slug as starting materials of lime for a blast furnace or sintering furnace and as fertilizer or soil improver by a method wherein converter slug is crushed and part containing phosphorus and part containing iron oxide and lime are separated by the difference in their specific gravity. CONSTITUTION:Iron values such as iron oxide, particulate iron, lime value and phosphoric acid value are contained in converter slug. the slug is crushed, and particulate iron is separated by magnetic separation. The specific gravity of a mixed solution of thallium formate and thallium malonate is adjusted to 3.45 to form a specific gravity separation solution. Phosphoric acid-containing part is separated as floating phase and utilized as fertilizer or soil improver. The part precipitated by the specific gravity separation method is stirred in the aqueous solution consisting of the above components, the specific gravity of which is adjusted to 4.0, to precipitate and separate a part containing a large amount of iron oxide and lime. After drying, the part is effectively utilized as a substitute for lime which is used in a blast furnace or iron ore-sintering furnace.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate bad influence of residual chlorine by providing in a cooling water conduit first and second detectors which detect residual chlorine in the used cooling water, providing between the detectors a neutralizer injection device which operates in response to the detected values, and providing a resistor between the injection device and the second detector. CONSTITUTION:Cooling brine is fed with chlorine from an inection port 4 and directed into a heat exchanger 2 via a conduit 1. Residual chlorine in the used cooling water is detected by a first detector which comprises a detection point S1 and an analyzer 7. A chlorine neutralizer injection device comprising pumps 9 and 10, neutralizer tank 11, and injection nozzle 5 is operated for injection of the neutralizer in accordance with the detected value. The mixture is passed through a resistor 6 for promotion of the mixing. The residual chlorine is again detected by a second detector comprising a detection point S2 and an analyzer 8, and the injection device is operated for injection of the neutralizer in accordance with the detected value. Thus residual chlorine is removed from brine, eliminating the bad influence of residual chlorine on fish and shellfishes.
