    • PURPOSE:To facilitate effective sewage treatment by drying sewage sludge, treating the dry sludge with a dilute aqueous acid solution to dissolve heavy metals, and separating the treated sludge from the solution. CONSTITUTION:When sewage sludge is dried, not only its water content is decreased but also a solid contained in the sludge, strongly hydrophilic colloid, is converted into a hydrophobic solid during heat-drying. The sewage is then treated with a dilute aqueous acid solution, e.g. 0.8-1.0 N nitric acid solution. In this treatment, 1 pt.wt. of the dry sludge and 5-10 pts.wt. of the acid solution are placed in an appropriate vessel, and the mixture is agitated for 10-30min. The sludge from which heavy metals are dissolved out, after being washed with water, is separated from the solution by filtration etc., and is then heated if necessary. For example, when nitric acid is used, heavy metals are removed from the sludge in large percentages: cadmium, about 80%; lead, about 95%; arsenic, about 95%, respectively.

    • PURPOSE:To make manufacturing cost, installation space, and running and maintenance cost of an activated-sludge treatment apparatus advantageous by communicating the middle parts of a higher tub and a lower tub and bottom parts of the higher tub and the lower tub respectively with pipes tilting downward and setting a wastewater supplying inlet and a gas jetting apparatus in the bottom part of the higher tub and setting a treated water discharging outlet in the tip part of the lower tub. CONSTITUTION:Two cylindrical tubs with different height are installed and the higher tub is used as an aeration tank 1 and the lower tub is used as a precipitation tank 4 for precipitating and separating activated-sludge. The aeration tank 1 is made sufficiently high to carry out deep layer aeration treatment and object wastewater of treatment is sent from a wastewater supplying inlet 2 in the bottom part of the aeration tank 1 and aeration is carried out by a gas jetting apparatus 3 and only the aeration-treated water is led to flow the precipitation tank 4 passing a transporting pipe 6 tilting downward and activated-sludge is precipitated in the precipitation tank 4. In the precipitation tank 4, the treated water separated from the activated-sludge overflows out of the discharge outlet 5 in the upper part and the precipitated activated- sludge is returned to the aeration tank 1 passing the returning pipe 7 tilting downward.

    • PURPOSE:To easily separate a floatable solid substance by a method wherein gas is introduced into a liquid to be treated under pressure to be dissolved therein and the liquid to be treated is returned to atmospheric pressure immediately before injected in a three-liquid separating liquid cyclone and the dissolved gas is liberated as fine gas bubbles from the liquid to be treated. CONSTITUTION:A liquid containing a floatable solid substance is treated with a three-liquid separating liquid cyclone 1 to perform solid-liquid separation. A part of the treated water introduced into a treated water storage tank 4 is pumped out by a pump 5 to be introduced into a pressure tank 6 under pressure. Air having air pressure of about 2-10kg/cm is introduced into this treated water under pressure by a compressor 7. This treated water containing the air introduced under pressure is sent to a raw water supply pipeline 9 through a pressure reducing valve 8 and mixed with an about fourfold amount of raw water to be supplied to the cyclone 1 and the dissolved air is liberated herein as fine air bubbles from the liquid to be treated. As a result, a low specific gravity floatable solid difficult to separate heretofore can be easily separated.
