摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for elongating a glass rod, wherein a yield is improved by cutting it continuously a elongated glass rod to a desired length, and a method therefor. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprise heating a glass rod 2 to a temperature equal to or higher than the softening temperature, perpendicularly elongating the heated glass rod, and cutting the elongated glass rod 4 to a specified length by means of a cutter 5, wherein the elongated glass rod is cut after positioned so that it can run while held by at least one pair of rollers 12 in the proximity to the cutter 5 before or after the feed into the cutter 5. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the side pressure on the scratched plastic optical fiber (scratched POF) constituting a tape like optical fiber sensor. SOLUTION: The optical fiber sensor 5 is composed of a plurality of scratched POFs 1-4 made into a tape. The plurality of scratched POFs 1-4 are arranged together with the reinforcing string 11, and 12 and integrated. When the optical fiber sensor 5 being an optical fiber tape are laid side by side and laminated and made into an optical fiber sheet, the sheets 7 are arranged on and under the fiber sensors 5 and pressed by the roller 8 and bonded in an integration. At this time the rollers 8 generate forces from the left and the right toward the center, therefore the left part 5 and the right part (5) squeeze together but because of existing the reinforcing strings 11 and 12, the scratched POFs do not squeeze to each other, therefore the side pressure acting on the scratched POFs are reduced. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating method of an optical fiber preform which keeps the inside of heating furnace at a positive pressure of 5-10000 Pa even when there is a fluctuation in an outer diameter of the charged optical fiber preform, and a heating furnace used for the same. SOLUTION: In this heating method of optical fiber preform which controls an opening diameter of an inlet of the heating furnace in accordance with the outer diameter of the optical fiber preform, the inside of the heating furnace can be kept at a positive pressure of 5-10000 Pa even when there is the fluctuation in the outer diameter of the optical fiber preform. Further, an outer diameter measuring instrument which measures the outer diameter of the optical fiber preform is disposed near the inlet of the heating furnace and a control part which controls the opening diameter of the inlet in accordance with the outer diameter data obtained by the outer diameter measuring instrument is disposed. Depending on the heating furnace provided with a movable cover whose opening diameter is changed in accordance with a signal from the control part, the inside of heating furnace can be kept at a positive pressure of 5-10000 Pa even when there is a fluctuation in outer diameter of optical fiber preform.
