    • PURPOSE:To shorten the cessation time of light at the time of switching by drawing out and inserting a fitting pin by dividing said actions into on-the-way and its subsequent process, and releasing a connector to a connected state before switching, in accordance with necessity on the way of switching. CONSTITUTION:A fitting pin P is drawn out of one of connectors 1, 2 which have been connected, one connector 1 into which this fitting pin P has been inserted is moved to a position opposed to a connector 3 of a switching side, and the fitting pin P which has been inserted into its connector 1 is inserted into the connector 3 of the switching side. On the way of this insertion, a transmission loss of the connected part of the connector 1 and 3 is measured. In case when the transmission loss is larger than a prescribed value, since the connection of the connector 1 and 3 is insufficient, the connector 1 is released to the connected state before switching from its position on the way. In such a way, comparing with the case when the transmission loss is measured after switching has been completed, there is no waste in switching, and the cessation time of light can be shortened.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten the light shielding period of a spectral line, by predicting the operation response delay time of an actuator relating to the switching of an optical connector, and supplying a start up signal to the actuator in advance corresponding to the operation response delay time. CONSTITUTION:The alignment of a first optical connector 30 and a second optical connector 31 is performed by fitting a fitting pin 34 so as to stride them and the fitting pin 34 of the connection part of an optical line connected optically is withdrawn from the second optical connector 31, and the connection of those optical connectors is canceled, and after that, the first optical connector 30 is moved relatively to a prescribed position confronting with a third optical connector 32, then, the alignment of them is performed, and a state is switched to the one connected optically. At this time, the operation response delay time of the actuator 45 relating to the switching of the optical connector at least in the light shielding period of the optical line is predicted, and the start up signal is supplied to the actuator 45 in advance corresponding to the operation response delay time. In such a way, a wasteful time is eliminated, and it is possible to shorten the interruption time of an optical signal at the time of switching and to maintain the hot-line state of the optical line.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten the time when communication is interrupted at the time of switching of optical connectors by setting the length of a sleeve at the length smaller than the length in the front end part of the ferrule. CONSTITUTION:The ferrule 1 mounted to the end part of an optical fiber 3 has a circular columnar front end part 5 to be fitted to a sleeve 2 at the end of a collar part 4 and the peripheral face of this part 5 is so formed that the axial center thereof aligns to the fiber 3. On the other hand, the sleeve 2 is longitudinally formed with a slit 6 and is so formed as to tighten the part 5 by its own elasticity. The length L of the sleeve 2 is made shorter than the length M of the part 5. The switching method using the optical connector constituted in such a manner is executed by first pulling the sleeve 2 onto the one ferrule while maintaining the butt state of the two ferrules. The ferrule is then laterally moved together with the sleeve 2 and is butted against the 3rd ferrule and the sleeve 2 is moved so as to be disposed across the front end parts of the two ferrules. The rapid switching is executed by eliminating or sufficiently lessening the movement of the ferrule in the axial line direction at this time.

    • PURPOSE:To permit simpler and exacter positioning of an optical connector at the time of changing over the connector by constituting a device in such a manner that the optical connector is positioned by positioning holes having the diameter larger than the diameter of pin holes formed on the same axial line as the axial line of the pin holes. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 22 is so fixed that the end face thereof is exposed to a joint face 23 to the mating side optical connector 21 and the pin holes 24 for alignment are formed perpendicularly to the joint surface 23 in a manner as to maintain the specified positional relation with the optical fiber 22. The positioning holes 25 having the diameter larger than the diameter of the pin holes 24 are formed to the side of such optical connector 21 opposite from the joint surface 23 by aligning the axial line thereof to the axial line of the pin holes 24. Since the positioning of the optical connector is executed on the basis of such positioning holes 25, the easy and exact positioning of the optical connector is permitted at the time of changing over the optical connector; in addition, the hindrance in the insertion and removal of fitting pins 26 is obviated.
