SOLUTION: This method for purifying fluoromethyl-hexafluoroisopropyl ether is to treat fluoromethyl-1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl ether containing 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl alcohol (hereinafter called as the alcohol) by making a contact with a basic aqueous solution containing a basic substance in an amount of >=1 equivalent ratio of (the basic substance)/(the above alcohol) (provided that the equivalent means that the acid base equivalent by taking the alcohol as a mono basic acid). As the basic substance, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide are preferable. As the treating temperature, 10-50 deg.C is preferable. Also, the treatment is usually performed under 1-10 kg/cm pressure.

As a result, carbon dioxide is efficiently absorbed and the decomposition of the anesthetic is reduced. By this constitution, even when the anesthetic is circulated and used in closed system anesthesia, it can be used safely.
