    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniform the surface electric potential in dark parts and bright parts of a latent image.
      SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes, for example, an approximation expression decision making means, a sensitivity correction value decision making means and a bias current control means. The approximation expression decision making means decides on an n-th order approximating equation and an approximate equation of m-th order which express sensitivity characteristics in the main scanning direction of an image carrier, on the basis of the sensitivity data which show the sensitivity of the respective regions, obtained by dividing the surface of the image carrier into a plurality of parts, where n and m are natural numbers and m>n. The sensitivity correction value decision making means decides the sensitivity correction values which are the correction values of the sensitivity at the respective regions, on the basis of the approximate equation of n-th order and an m-th order approximate equation order. The bias current control means controls the bias current supplied to a light source according to the sensitivity correction value. A switching current control means controls the switching current supplied to the light source, according to the electric current and the sensitivity correction value for obtaining a target light quantity.
