The absorbent substrate may include, woven and non-woven, surgical sponges and gauze. A method of manufacturing an X-ray detectable thread having the radiopaque core 12 and the at least partially encasing sheath 14 includes the step of extruding the radiopaque core 12 within the sheath 14. The step of extruding includes coextruding the radiopaque core 12 within the sheath 14.

Various operative mechanisms are disclosed, and they can be operated by the energy preservation mechanism since a release speed of the energy preserved in the energy preservation mechanism can be controlled.
