    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an engine start device compact and reduce its weight by integrally forming a bearing housing having a support hole having a bottom in which a bearing metal supporting a rear end of a pinion drive shaft rotatably is pressed on a front bracket by protruding it on a gear housing side and providing a small through hole at a closed end of the support hole. SOLUTION: A rotary shaft 11 of a start motor 10 is connected with a pinion drive shaft 13 through a gear reduction mechanism 12, and the drive shaft 13 is connected with a pinion capable of meshing with a ring gear of an engine through an overrunning clutch 14. At this time, a front end of the rotary shaft 11 of the start motor 10 through a front bracket 22 and protrudes in a gear housing 33. Moreover, a bearing housing 50 is integrally provided on the front bracket 22 in a central part of the gear housing 33. A rear end of the pinion drive shaft 13 is supported through a bearing metal 51 in a support hole 80 which is provided in the bearing housing 50 and has a bottom. This support hole 80 is vented to the atmospheric air through a small hole 81 to facilitate the insertion of the drive shaft 13.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably fit a cap which covers the connection section of the first and second terminal members by providing notches, partitioning the inner peripheral section of a coupling flange section into multiple parts along the peripheral direction at multiple positions with intervals in the peripheral direction of the inner peripheral edge of the coupling flange section. SOLUTION: Plural notches 29, 29 are provided on the coupling flange section 19c of a cap 19, and the portion partitioned by the notches 29 can be warped. Even if an opening section 28 formed by the inner periphery of a coupling flange section 19c is set relatively small, first and second terminal members 17, 18 mutually connected can be inserted into or removed from the opening section 28 relatively easily, and the coupling areas of the partitioned portions of the coupling flange section 19c with the second terminal member 18 with the cap 19 fitted can be made relatively large. Thus even if only a slight shock is applied to the fitted cap 19, the coupled state of the coupling flange section 19c with the second terminal member 18 is maintained, so that the cap 19 does not turn over, and the fitted state of the cap 19 is maintained stably.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brush holder for series DC moor which can reduce the length of the motor in the axial direction, can easily change the direction of rotation of the motor, can reduce the cost of the motor, by reducing the number of parts by forming a commutator in a flat shape and, at the same time, integrally forming a brush holder section which holds a brush with a rear bracket of an electrically insulating synthetic resin. SOLUTION: A field core 9 wound with a field coil 10 is fixed to the inner peripheral surface of a cylindrical yoke 2. Then, an armature 11 which is constituted by putting a flat commutator piece 14 formed by uniting many flat commutator pieces 16 in one body which a molding resin 15 and an armature core 12 which is wound with an armature coil 13 connected to the pieces 16 on a rotating shaft 8 is positioned on the inside of the core 9. In addition, a rear bracket 4 fitted with a slide bearing 7 at its central part is integrally formed with a brush holder section of an electrically insulating synthetic resin. Therefore, the length of a motor 1 in the axial direction can be reduced remarkably and the need of a brush holder for reverse rotation only is eliminated except the brush holder for normal rotation, and then, the manufacturing cost of the motor can be reduced by reducing the number of parts.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the waterproofness of a power generating coil assembly, in an exciter for a retarder having a plurality of power generating coil assemblies constituted of a bobbin made of synthetic resin, a plurality of power generating coils wound around the bobbin, an exciter core installed in the bobbin, and a covering part made of synthetic resin which makes a part of the exciter core face the outside and covers the bobbin and each of the coils. SOLUTION: A plurality of first protrusions 48 surround the respective individual core parts 17b in the endless manner, with the respective flange parts 46 of a bobbin 41 and the bonded surface 52 of a covering part 42. A second protrusion 53 surrounds all power generating coils 18 in the endless manner, with a linkage plate part 44 of the bobbin 41 and the bonded surface 54 of the covering part 42. The first protrusions 48 and the second protrusion 53 are formed in the bobbin 41, in such a manner that the protrusions enchroach on the covering part 42 when the covering part 42 is formed by melting resin.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the circuit while stabilizing the trigger circuit for a thyristor by counting pulses based on a vehicle speed measurement signal synchronized with the voltage generated from an exciter thereby generating a trigger signal for the thyristor. SOLUTION: An AC voltage generated from an exciter 1 is rectified through a half-wave rectifier circuit 31 and a zero-cross point thereof is detected through a zero-cross detection circuit 32 in the next stage. It is then shaped through a shaper circuit 44 to produce a vehicle speed measurement pulse synchronized with the AC voltage of the exciter 1. The pulses of vehicle speed measurement pulse synchronized with the AC voltage of the exciter 1 are fed to a CPU 40 and counted at the counter section 42 thereof. Since the vehicle speed measurement signal is synchronized with the AC voltage of the exciter 1, the circuit can be simplified and trigqer of the thyristor is stabilized thus stabilizing operation of the system.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely fix a heat shielding plate for preventing the radiant heat from a vortex cylinder by eddy current loss from exerting an adverse influence upon an exciting coil, in a retarder which is arranged so that braking torque can be obtained by the cooperative action between the eddy current and the magnetic field by the exciting coil, by generating an eddy current in the vortex cylinder by the current application to the exciting coil, in condition that the vortex cylinder and the supporting cylinder are relatively rotating. SOLUTION: The tip of each pole core 15 whose base end is fastened to the periphery of a supporting cylinder 14 is provided each integrally with a collar 15a jutting out sideward, and between these collars 15a and the supporting cylinder 14, a heat screen plate 38 and an exciting coil assembly 41 are caught in order from the side of the collar 15a, and the heat screen plate 38 is provided with a cut and erected part to contact elastically with the collar 15a.
