    • PURPOSE:To reduce the corrosion of a carbon lining for a furnace bottom by a method wherein an electric smelting furnace is provided with the tapping port of molten rock-wool material at a furnace wall and with the extracting port of molten iron for the outflow of the molten iron stagnated on the furnace bottom at a position higher than the furnace bottom. CONSTITUTION:The furnace bottom and the inner wall surface of a furnace body 1 are lined with a carbon lining material 1a. A tapping port 3 is provided at a position having an enough height from the furnace bottom while a molten iron extracting port 4 is provided at a position, slightly higher than the furnace bottom and sufficiently lower than the tapping port 3. According to this constitution, molten iron, situated at a part lower than the extracting port 4, remains in a furnace upon extracting the molten and stagnated iron on the furnace bottom through the extracting port 4. The furnace bottom is protected by the molten iron so that the rock wool material does not contact with the carbon lining material on the furnace bottom whereby carbon unsaturated iron in the rock-wool material is prevented from absorbing carbon from the carbon lining material on the furnace bottom and reducing reaction and the corrosion of the carbon lining material on the furnace bottom may be reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To hold the amount of a molten substance to be fed to a normally specified desired value, by a method wherein a furnace body is inclined so that an amount of the molten substance to be fed, determined through the measurement of a furnace weight, is adjusted to a set value, and through the detection of the level of the molten substance in a furnace, the inclination degree of the furnace body is controlled. CONSTITUTION:A load cell 18 measures a furnace weight containing a molten substance A in a furnace, and from a reduction amount, the amount of a molten substance to be fed is calculated. The result is compared with a preset desired molten substance feed amount, and a signal responding to a difference therebetween is sent to a furnace body inclination control part. A level detector 14 for the molten substance A decides by means of an output from a detecting circuit whether the tip of the detector makes contact with the molten substance A. Since, with the furnace body 1 being inclined, a level AL of the molten substance A is always situated to the tip position of the detector 14, the head height of the level AL from a tap hole 1a for the molten substance A is always kept at a specified value, and the mount of molten substance fed per unit time can be specified.
