    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a railway vehicle capable of improving a strength of structure while assuring an expanse of a compartment space. SOLUTION: A side structure 5 has a lower frame 10 welded to an outer plate 9 and an upper frame 30 welded to the lower frame 10 while being crossed with it, so that it is possible to cause the lower frame 10 and the upper frame 30 to act as a lateral beam and a longitudinal beam so as to strengthen the outer plate 9 and assure the strength of the side structure 5. The upper beam channels 30a, 30b of the upper frame 30 are formed so as to have recesses 30d, and lower beam channels 10a, 10b of the lower frame 10 are fitted into the recesses 30d of the upper beam channels 30a, 30b, so that an overlapped state of the lower frame 10 and the upper frame 30 is increased in their thickness direction. Then, it is possible to make the thickness of the side structure 5 thin and assure a space of a compartment room.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light structural member for a railway vehicle capable of jointing an outer plate and an outer plate reinforcing member without a restraining jig of a complicated mechanism.
      SOLUTION: In this structural member 11 for a railway vehicle, a bent portion 37 is formed at a tip of a flange part 35 of an outer plate reinforcing member 31, so as to improve rigidity at a jointed portion. Therefore, there is no need of restraint with a jig of a complicated shape, so that the outer plate reinforcing member 31 can be brought into contact with the outer plate 21 by a simple manner. In this structural member 11 for the railway vehicle, in view of a convergence angle of laser beams and a curvature radius of a corner part R2 formed by the flange part 35 and a web part 33, an angle formed by the corner part R2 is larger than 90°. Therefore, a laser welding part W can be formed near the corner part R2 at a flat portion 36 of the flange part 35. Thereby, a weight increase of the structure due to unnecessary restraint tolerance or welding tolerance can be avoided.
