The public telephone line I/F portion 111 receives a first signal including parameters of a coding system of the coded image data, and also, after receiving the first signal, receives a second signal including parameters of the coding system of the coded image data. The decoder 130 decodes the coded image data, using the parameters included in the second signal, irrespective of whether or not the parameters included in the first signal match the parameters included in the second signal.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus which can certainly check whether a transmission destination is correct, prior to facsimile transmission, and to prevent wrong transmission of facsimile data.SOLUTION: In the communication apparatus, when a transmission side apparatus 1 carries out FAX transmission to a reception side apparatus 2 as shown in the Fig.2(b), a connection is established so as to be able to communicate between the transmission side apparatus 1 and the reception side apparatus 2 via an IP network 200. Afterwards, normally the transmission side apparatus 1 originates a call to the reception-side apparatus 2, but the transmission side user erroneously dials a FAX 3 and calls the FAX 3. In this case, an exchange outputs an RBT signal to the transmission-side apparatus 1 and a CI signal to the FAX 3 but does not output a CI signal to the reception-side apparatus 2. If the transmission-side apparatus 1 detects an RBT signal, it notifies to the reception-side apparatus 2 that it calls the reception side apparatus via the IP network, but the reception side apparatus 2 does not return an ACK signal, since it is not called. Accordingly, the transmission-side apparatus 1 can check that the transmission destination is a wrong destination, since the transmission-side apparatus is unable to receive an ACK signal from the reception side apparatus 2 and stops the calling.

If the user B has registered the account in some facsimile apparatus (a receiver 1B for example), the server 2 informs the transmitter 1A that the user B has registered the account in the receiver 1B (S9).
