    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To back up data in a clustered file system or a clustered NAS environment.
      SOLUTION: In the clustered file system or a clustered NAS system having a single namespace, data backup can be performed by only one backup request from a client host. When the backup request is received at one file server, the file server backs up data, and if necessary, transmits another backup request to another file server that also manages data in the namespace. This process is repeated until the backup process is completed. Similarly, when a restore request is received during restore operation, the file server that receives the restore request issues additional restore requests to other file servers that manage data also requested to be restored.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage control system wherein a plurality of storage controllers are connected and wherein restore data are transferred from one storage controller to the other storage controller, allowing certain access to the restore data even when an upper device accesses a logical volume of a transfer destination of the restore data. SOLUTION: In this storage control system wherein a first storage controller and a second storage controller are communicably connected to each other, performing data processing according to a request from the upper device, the first storage controller has: a virtual volume associated to the logical volume of the second storage controller; a cache memory associated to the virtual volume; and a control part controlling the data processing between the cache memory and the virtual volume. The control part purges a storage area of the cache memory corresponding to the virtual volume accessed by the upper device when storing the restore data of the logical volume in the cache memory.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide data managing functions in a plurality of generations to a sub-disk array device.
      SOLUTION: A main site disk array device 1 is provided with a remote copy function. When the update of a host 3 to a main volume 4 is performed, difference data 5 are generated. The disk array device 1 remotely copies the difference data 5 and difference management information to a sub-site disk array device 2. The disk array device 2 receives the remotely copied data through a vertual sub-site 6. The difference data or the like are divided for each generation, and stored in a generation management volume 7. A sub-volume 8 stores the storage contents of the predetermined point of time of the main volume 4. Thus, it is possible to manage data in a plurality of generations in the disk array device 2, and to add the generation managing function to the system without stopping the operation of the main disk array device 1 or changing specifications.
