摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a gland packing with satisfactory handling property and excellent sealing property by constituting a laminated cylindrical main packing portion enveloped and held by a film-like shell of heat resisting material. CONSTITUTION:A main portion A of a gland packing is constituted from a square-sectioned knitted body of cotton, asbestos, synthetic fiber, metal wire, etc. which body is cut by a predetermined length. A plurality of ring-like knitted bodies 1 are made by butting end to end the cut knitted body and laminated, impregnated with lubricant and compressed by a predetermined pressure. And the outer peripheral surface and an annular portion of both end faces connected thereto of the laminated knitted body are enveloped and held by a film-like shell 2 of lead alloy like Babbit metal, aluminum alloy, copper alloy or soft heat resisting materials like nickel, pure iron, asbestos cloth, glass cloth, etc. The main packing portion integral with the film-like shell can be uniformly filled in a stuffing box so that the sealing property is stabilized and the durability is substantially improved.
