    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of excessive deformation in a damper spring to prevent breakage of the damper spring and improve its durability even when the damper spring is displaced by large load and is wound and tightened around a boss part supporting the damper spring.
      SOLUTION: This recoil starter transmits rotation of a rope reel 14 to a cam member 15 through the damper spring 24 like a coil spring whose both ends are locked in the rope reel 14 and the cam member 15, respectively. The boss part 23 having substantially the same length as length of a winding part of the damper spring 24 is formed in either of the rope reel 14 and the cam member 15. Substantially whole length on an inner peripheral side of the damper spring 24 is supported by the boss part 23. When the damper spring 24 is elastically deformed due to start resistance of an engine, substantially whole length of the winding part of the damper spring 24 is uniformly wound and tightened around an outer peripheral face of the boss part 23.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recoil starter for taking cooling air in an engine via the recoil starter, and reducing the size and weight.
      SOLUTION: Annular recessed parts 11 and 12 are oppositely formed on mutually opposing contact planes of a rope reel 4 and a cam 7. A damper spring 13 is housed in the annular recessed parts 11 and 12. Both ends of the damper spring 13 are respectively locked on the rope reel 4 and the cam 7, and rotatably connected via the damper spring 13. Air blowing windows 18 and 19 for introducing the cooling air of the engine are formed on an outside surface of a case 1. A vent hole 21 opposed to the air blowing window 18 formed in the case 1 is formed between an outer peripheral reel part 4a of the rope reel 4 and a boss part 4b for forming the annular recessed part 11.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure safety by preventing breakage of parts even when a rope is erroneously pulled at reverse rotation of a pulley directly connected to an engine.SOLUTION: A ratchet 17 is provided rotatably to a rope reel provided in a rotary shaft 5 of a starter case. A projection part 16 formed at one end of a coil spring 7 is engaged with a guide groove 20 provided in the ratchet 17. According to movement of the projection part 16 along the guide groove 20 by rotation of the rope reel 6, the ratchet 17 is rotated so that its top end claw part 21 is engaged with an engagement part of the pulley for starting the engine. The guide groove 20 comprises a first guide part 20a formed along a circumferential direction with the rotary shaft 5 as its center, and a second groove part 20b elongating slightly outward apart from the rotary shaft 5 so as to be formed continuously. The ratchet 17 is formed in a ring-like shape. The guide groove 20 is provided on the opposite side of the rotary shaft 5 with respect to the engagement claw part 21 at the top end of the ratchet 17.
