摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce color breakup interference and to provide the high image quality with high display luminance by constituting a liquid crystal color shutter so as to display different display colors in at least two display areas at the optional time in a driving state. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal color shutter 101 is constituted of antiferroelectric liquid crystal cells 102 and 103 and polarizing plates 104-108. Also, to the back surface of the liquid crystal color shutter 101, a black-and- white CRT 109 is tightly adhered and installed. Then, as electron beams are scanned from the upper left of a screen to the lower right, the RGB display of the liquid crystal color shutter 102 successively performs a scroll operation so as to maintain phase relation in the respective display areas. At the time, since a fly-back period at the time of the vertical sweep of the electron beams is minimized and a beam sweep suspension period is not generated, the plural display colors are displayed at all times on the screen of the liquid crystal color shutter 102.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve light emitting efficiency and screen brightness of a plasma discharge type plane display device. SOLUTION: A plasma discharge type plane display device 1 with the partial pressure of Xe in mixture gas G being 15% or more has a display electrode 12a on a surface substrate 11 and a counter electrode 23 on an emission substrate 21. The phosphor layer 28 of a discharge chamber 26 for the emission substrate contains small-side spherical phosphors whose outside is covered with a reflecting layer 27. The display electrode of the surface substrate is protected by a protecting film 15 formed on the side face of the discharge chamber, an ultraviolet reflecting film 14 and a dielectric layer 13. In this way, the plasma discharge type display device with a high screen brightness is provided, in which the display of an image is started with low discharge starting voltage and emission efficiency is improved.

SOLUTION: This fluorescent substance comprises transparent spherical particles expressed by the formula: Ln2 O2 S:R (Ln is at least one kind of group 3A element selected from a group consisting of Y, La, Gd and Lu; R is a lanthanide element), having an average particle diameter of 0.5-15μm and a major axis/minor axis ratio of 1.0-1.5, contains particles having diameters of 0.01-0.2μm in an amount of 0.001-0.5wt.%, has relations of the inequalities: 0.31 =95%. The spherical fluorescent substance expressed by the formula and obtained by melting raw materials in thermal plasma and subsequently quenching the melted product is preferably received in the inner vessel of a double vessel. The powder of a sulfide is received in the outer vessel so as to cover the inner vessel, and the received materials are preferably heated at 950-1300 deg.C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere.

Of such phosphors. one represented by the compsn. formula: Gd2 O3 :R and having a crystal system of which at least a part is monoclinic is suitable for a cathode ray tube, and a phosphor having a proportion of the monoclinic system of 5-100% and an average particle size of 0.5-3μm is suitable for a fluorescent lamp.

Because the metal oxide particles added to the phosphor powder have a high getter function and a marked tendency to be positively charged, the phosphor is reduced in the adsorption of a mercury compound and other impurities.

CONSTITUTION:The objective fluorescent material is produced by uniformly coating the surface of particles of a fluorescent material of formula LnOX:R (Ln is La, Ga or Y; X is Cl or Br; R is Ce, Pr, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Tm, Zr, Hf, Ti, Pb or Bi) with the film of one or more oxides selected from SiO2, Ta2O5, TiO2 and Al2O3. The fluorescent material can be produced by suspending rare earth metal oxyhalide fluorescent material particles in a metal alkoxide solution, sufficiently stirring the mixture, filtering the suspension and drying the obtained powder at 100-200 deg.C for 30min-2hr.
