    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve compatibility with a low impedance load and to suppress the influence of a stray capacitance by increasing the secondary capacitance.
      SOLUTION: In a piezoelectric transformer provided with input and output electrodes of a piezoelectric ceramic cylinder, the input electrodes are provided on the front and rear surfaces of about 1/4 of the whole length on both of the ends, and the parts are polarized in the direction of front and rear surfaces. The other parts are polarized in a longitudinal direction, and provided with the output electrodes on an outer periphery in the center. And addition to those mentioned above, by utilizing not only the vibration mode of the elasticity in the longitudinal direction of a cylindrical piezoelectric body where both sides of the output electrodes are driven by opposite phases but also the vibration mode of the elasticity in the direction of a diameter, the piezoelectric transformer of a large power can be realized.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the effect of spurious when driving in contour vibration mode.
      SOLUTION: An approximately square-shaped piezoelectric ceramic plate is driven by a primary contour vibration with input and output electrodes formed on both sides of a half part and an output electrode formed on the opposite end of the piezoelectric ceramic plate. Conductor strip lines in parallel with the output electrode and connecting center part and end parts in a direction of width are formed on the surface of the piezoelectric ceramic plate of the output side. Spurious is shifted to lower frequency by neutralizing and canceling reverse electric potential generated in the spurious vibration mode with the strip line. Cutting off the corner of the piezoelectric ceramic plate in the input side further improves the effect.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric transformer that has a small size, can be manufactured easily, and can obtain a high boosting magnification. SOLUTION: Input electrodes are formed on both broad end sides of an hourglass-shaped piezoelectric ceramic plate that commonly uses the narrow end face of a trapezoidal piezoelectric ceramic substrate and an output electrode is formed at a narrow central portion of the ceramic plate. Two trapezoidal portions are driven in opposite phases by selecting a proportion which makes the displacement of the central narrow portion very small. A boosting magnification that is almost equal to that of the conventional laminated type piezoelectric transformer can be obtained by driving the trapezoidal portions in a contour vibrating mode in which one trapezoidal portion elongates and the other portion shrinks. Either one of a single piezoelectric ceramic plate and a piezoelectric ceramic substrate the output side of which is connected can be used. The characteristics of this piezoelectric transformer can be improved by selecting the ratio of the widths of both ends to that of the central portion.
