    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the decrease of the reproducing sensitivity of a reproducing MR head caused by noise, and the generation of recording fringe of a recording head. SOLUTION: A magnetic head has a recording magnetic yokes 14 and 15 with a recording magnetic gap film 18 interposed on a medium facing side S, and similarly, has a reproducing magnetic yokes 26 and 27 with a reproducing magnetic gap film 30 interposed on the medium facing surface S. The magnetic yokes may be used combinedly for recording/reproducing. A recording coil 21, which supplies recording magnetic flux to recording medium through the recording magnetic yokes 14 and 15, is arranged on one main surface of the magnetic yokes 14 and 15. An MR element, to which signal magnetic flux is introduced from the recording medium through the reproducing magnetic yokes 26 and 27, is arranged on a main surface opposite to the recording coil 21 of the magnetic yokes 26 and 27. Alternatingly, a ferromagnetic layer is arranged on the extended surface of the magnetic gap film so that a film surface is almost orthogonal with respect to the film.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the formation of a pole tip of an upper magnetic pole and a coil more closely to each other, and smooth an underlying surface of the upper magnetic pole, by improving the precision of a coil forming position in a thin film magnetic head. SOLUTION: A thin film magnetic head has a lower magnetic pole 17 and an upper magnetic pole 25 which are formed via a magnetic gap 21, and a coil 24 provided between these poles. The lower magnetic pole 17 has protrusions 20 to be forming positions for an upper magnetic pole tip 25a and the coil 24. In addition, a first non-magnetic insulating material layer 21a to be a part of the magnetic gap 21 and a recess forming insulating layer 22 are sequentially provided on the lower magnetic pole 17, and the recess forming insulating layer 22 has recesses 23 corresponding to the positions of the protrusions 20. In these recesses 23, the upper magnetic pole tip 25a and the coil 24 are formed in a buried state. The coil 24 and the upper magnetic pole 25 are insulated from each other by a second non-magnetic insulating material layer 21b to be a part of the magnetic gap 21.

SOLUTION: On the upper part of the magnetoresistive effect element 4 formed on the substrate 2, a magnetic gap 10 formed in the direction almost perpendicular to the surface of the substrate 2 is interposed at the side of a medium counter surface S and also first and second magnetic cores 8, 9 respectively magnetically coupled with both ends of the magnetoresistive element 4 are formed. A recording coil 12 supplying a magnetic flux to magnetic cores 8, 9 is formed at the upper surface side of the cores 8, 9. Moreover, one parts of cores 8, 9 constituting a yoke part are arranged at a side nearer to the medium counter surface S than the magnetoresistive element 4 so as to cover the magnetoresistive element 4 when it is seen from the medium counter surface S.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the improving of a reproduced output by both satisfying the increase of the electric resistance and the decrease of a magnetoresistance of an MR film in a york type magnetoresistive effect(MR) head. SOLUTION: On first and second magnetic cores 4, 5 disposed to face oppositely by interposing magnetic gaps 6, 7 in the advancing direction of a recording medium. an MR film 8 is formed so that the longitudinal direction of the film becomes almost parallel with the magnetic gap 7 at a position retreating by a prescribed distance from the surface S opposite to the medium. The MR film is magnetically coupled with the first and second magnetic cores 4, 5 at its both sides. First and second leads 9, 10 are formed so as to make a sense current flow in a direction almost parallel with the magnetic gap 7 with respect to the MR head 8. Or, plural MR films are serially formed by straddling the magnetic gap 7 and also they are connected in series and the sense current is made to flow into them in the direction of this serial connection.

    • PURPOSE:To form films to fill the narrow grooves on a substrate at a high speed and to obtain the high-quality thin films by applying an electric field of a prescribed direction to ionized raw material particles to move these particles in parallel with the electric field direction and allowing the particles to progress in parallel with the flanks of the narrow grooves. CONSTITUTION:Inert gaseous ions are brought into collision against a target 7 arranged in a discharge chamber 3 to release the raw material particles. The particles are irradiated with electrons from an electron source 11, by which the raw material particles are ionized. The particle flow is then changed and moved in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the substrate 9 by the electric field generated by an acceleration electrode 13. The particle flow is made to arrive perpendicularly at the thin film forming surface of the substrate 9. The films to fill the narrow grooves are thus formed at a high speed by the particle flow having the unified directivity.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of a head by forming a gap of an insulating film on a magnetic film, forming a gas protective film of a nonmagnetic conductor film thereupon, and reproducing the thin-film magnetic head by a specific subsequent process. CONSTITUTION:The work strain of the polished surface of a magnetic substrate 21 is removed and then the magnetic gap 22 is formed of the insulating of SiO2, etc., over the entire surface by vapor deposition to gap length. Then, the nonmagnetic conductor film as the gap protective film 23 is formed to an about 1mum thickness and then a conductor film 25 for a coil is formed over the entire surface of an insulating film 24 of oxide. Then, a coil pattern is formed by using photoresist 26 and the conductor film 25 for the coil is etched in a coil pattern; and an insulating film 27 is formed between the conductor film 25 for the coil and a coil lead-out wire after the resist 26 is removed, and front and back gap parts 121 and 122 and the insulating film of a coil lead-out wire hole 123 are etched. Then, the exposed part of the gap protective film 23 is removed by chemical etching and a magnetic core 28 and the coil lead-out wire are formed after the gap 22 of the back gap part 122' is removed.
