    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage to a thyristor, if a forward voltage has been applied only to the arm of a thyristor valve failed in turning-off, by giving a gate pulse and turning it on. SOLUTION: At the same time with the turning-off of a thyristor valve 2v, an arm short circuit occurs to the thyristor valve 2u, if a faulty current exceeds a detection level of a level detector 8, it is outputted as a gate block signal GB2 from a control protection equipment 5 to a gate pulse generator device 4, and resets a flip-flop 11 via OR circuit 19 and OR circuit 13. Thereafter, a failure current is cut off once, and if a period from the application of a reverse voltage to the application of a forward voltage to the thyristor valve 2v is longer than a set point T1 at on-delay 15, then the output of on-delay 15 becomes 1, so that the flip-flop 12 is reset. Thus, even though a voltage is applied to the thyristor valve 2v and a FV signal is detected at that point in time, no gate pulse is outputted and the thyristor valve 2v becomes a turn-off state.

    • PURPOSE:To detect a commutation failure promptly and prevent later duplicated failures in a thyristor converter, by advancing an ignition phase to a given advanced phase on the basis of an output signal supplied from a commutation- failure detecting circuit when there are no marginal angles at a thyristor valve. CONSTITUTION:When a thyristor valve 13 does not open and a commutation failure takes place though a continuity-term signal (b) from a control circuit 14 becomes zero, an output signal (h) from an AND circuit 20, which receives a signal (e) and an output signal (g) from a one-shot pulse generator circuit 19, remains still zero. When an output (k) from an on-delay circuit 22 becomes 1, a commutation-failure protective signal as an output of the AND circuit 20 becomes also 1. By using the commutation-failure protective signal as a phase advancing signal in ignition phases of a thyristor converter 1, the phase is advanced much sooner than a conventional case, and therefore the duplicated commutation failures can be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To protect a thyristor against damage due to a surge voltage by comparing the rising rate of forward applying voltage with the turn OFF time of the thyristor when the surge voltage intrudes after turn OFF and delivering protective pulses to all thyristors thereby preventing failure of partial commutation. CONSTITUTION:Upon intrusion of a surge voltage, the forward voltage increases steeply during a reverse voltage interval and the intervals of t1, t2 are shortened. Consequently, the output (d) from a signal generating circuit 33 is higher than the output (c) from an adder circuit 32 even at time T2 when the reverse voltage becomes VR1. Consequently, the output (e) from a comparator 34 is sustained at '0' and a flip-flop 35 is not reset. When a forward voltage is applied to a thyristor 1, an FV signal '1' is produced and the output from an AND circuit 37 goes '1' to drive LEDs 40-1-40-N thus firing all thyristors. This constitution prevents failure of partial commutation and protects the thyristor against damage due to surge voltage.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain such a pulse generator that can surely prevent the generation of an unsuitable gate pulse when the output of the AVR of one system of a double PG system drops and, in addition, can safely stop a system without generating any overvoltage even when the output of the AVR of the operated PG system drops when only the PG system is operated. CONSTITUTION:In the case the level detection circuit 11A of one of the first and second pulse generators 5A and 5B starts to operate when the other pulse generator does not operate normally, a signal for requesting to stop system protection is sent to a control board 4 without stopping the generation of an optical gate pulse. The first and second power failure compensation circuits 8A and 8B have power supply capacities which are sufficient to enable the pulse generators 5A and 5B to normally operate during the period until a system is stopped for protection after the first and second level detection circuits 11A and 11B start to operate.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the breakage of a thyristor by an overvoltage by forcibly giving arc signals to all thyristors when the overvoltage is generated during a prescribed period after the completion of a energizing period. CONSTITUTION:Optical signals detected by forward voltage detection circuits 61, ...6I, ...6N are converted into electric signals C1, ...CI, ...CN at a photoreceptor circuit 9A. An optical overvoltage signal detected by an overvoltage detecting resistance 7 and overvoltage detection circuit 8 is converted into an overvoltage signal (d) at another photoreceptor circuit 9B. A signal processing circuit 10 produces output signals C10, ...CI0, ...CN0 when a forward voltage signal becomes zero. The C0 output of an OR circuit 11A is inputted to another OR circuit 11B together with the forward voltage signal C0 and an OR output (f) is produced. By using a protecting period signal (e) produced from a protecting period decision circuit 12 and the signal (f), a protective arcing signal (g) is produced at an AND circuit 13 and supplied to all thyristors 11, ...1I, ...1N through a gate pulse generation circuit 14 and light guides 41, ...4I, ...4N.
