    • PURPOSE:To properly execute cleaning and to prolong the life of a magnetic head by monitoring a cleaning state by signal frequency generated from a magnetic material coating band formed alternately with an abrasive coating band on the surface of a tape. CONSTITUTION:Sound recording ranges A and frequency recording ranges B are formed on the magnetic coating band 2 formed alternately with the abrasive coating band 3 on the surface of the cleaning tape 1. Maximum reproducing frequency f2 required for a magnetic head and a half level of the frequency f2 are recorded in ranges B2, B1 respectively at an operation recording level. The tape is formed as an endless one and a cleaning effect is decided by comparing the noise status of sound recorded in the range A and the state of a distortion value and the measured values of reproduced output voltage in the range B before and after cleaning. Consequently, cleaning can be properly executed and the life of the magnetic head can be prolonged.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a printing mechanism from directly striking a platen, a printing head from being broken and documents from being contaminated due to adhesion of ink to the platen, by a system wherein a surface on which the documents are moved is made to be optically black, the shape of the documents is recognized on the basis of information optically read, and a printing range is limited in accordance with the shape. CONSTITUTION:When a character-reading operation is finished, a printing region is optically read. The position at which a change from black to white occurs on a scanning line position 33 is the left end 34 of the document 26, and the width of the document 26 is detected. A character reader controlling circuit 20 copares the width of the document predetermined on a document format with the width of the document 26 actually read by a document shape recognizing part 15, and when the actual width is smaller, the circuit 20 performs such a control that printing is not conducted in a region out off the actual width even where the region is within the predetermined width and even when a printing command is supplied. Accordingly, the printing mechanism 13 is prevented from directly striking the platen, the printing head is prevented from being broken, and the document is prevented from being contaminated due to adhesion of the ink to the platen.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive a more rapid test printing, shorten a program for a test printing operation and reduce the memory capacity required for storing the program, by performing both a fixed character printing test and a whole character printing test through using a single ship. CONSTITUTION:When a test of a printer is started (a), a line counter is cleared (b), and a fixed character (in this example, H) is repeatedly printed (c) as shown in the first line on the slip 3. After the printing is over, it is decided whether or not the test is to be finished (d). When the test is to be continued, whole character printing in the next line (namely, the even-numbered second line) is performed by shift-in printing (f), the line counter is updated by 1 (h), and where the next line (namely, the odd-numbered third line) is not the last line, it is decided whether or not the test is to be finished (j). When the test is to be continued, whole character printing in the next line (namely, the odd-numbered third line) is again performed by shift-out printing (g), and the line counter is updated by 1 (h). Until the next line is detected as the last line, the above steps from the shift- in printing operation to the shift-out printing operation are repeated.

    • PURPOSE:To detect the bug of a program which uses frequently interruptions with high efficiency by providing a random delay circuit between an answer signal input terminal of a microprocessor and an answer signal output terminal of a device to receive an access. CONSTITUTION:When a test is given to a program using frequently interruptions, an ROM6 receives the read signal from a microprocessor unit (MPU) 1 and delivers an answer signal of a high level. Receiving this answer signal, a random delay circuit 3 gives a delay of a prescribed time to the answer signal and delivers it to the MPU1. The CPU1 receives the delayed signal and stops the output of the read signal. Thus the speed to read a control program out of the ROM6 by the MPU1 is delayed by a prescribed time in case where the delay circuit 3 is not used. Thus the overall processing time of the MPU1 is decreased and therefore the time needed to execute the programs of the same number of steps is increased. This improves the bug detecting efficiency for a program using frequently interruptions.
