    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat engine having characteristics capable of utilizing a heat source, waste heat the like, that have not been used because of small difference in temperature between them and environment, and taking out power therefrom.
      SOLUTION: The present engine, which serves as an external combustion engine, has the advantage of utilizing various heat sources, and similarly to internal combustion engines, has an open type mechanism for supplying and exhausting air from and to the outside to thereby allow the minimum temperature of an operation gas to be lowered to an environmental temperature in a heat cycle of the engine. Even when the heat source temperature is close to the environmental temperature, significant heat cycle is practically constituted within a rage between such temperatures so that power may be taken out. In the present engine, two piston-cylinder systems are connected to each other by a heat exchanger, as shown in Fig. 1. The operation gas is supplied to a cylinder A, subjected to adiabatic compression, and then transferred to a cylinder B while being heated in the heat exchanger. The resultant operation gas is adiabatically expanded to be exhausted.
