    • PURPOSE:To exactly test the friction of a tape by catching a change in the sliding state of the tape by the change of a friction coefficient obtained by using a friction and wear testing machine. CONSTITUTION:A loop-shaped video tape 1 is loaded to the friction and wear testing machine and set so that the read value of an incoming side tape tension sensor 5 can be 150g. Then, the loop-shaped video tape is driven and traveled at the speed of 1m/sec by the two pairs of capstans 2 and 11 and pinch rollers 3 and 12. The tape tension on incoming and outgoing sides is measured by the incoming side tape tension sensor 5 and an outgoing side tape tension sensor 9 and the friction and wear test of the loop-shaped video tape 1 is executed. Since the change of the friction coefficient due to this test is satisfactorily corresponding to the still property of a VTR, the change in the sliding state of the tape can be exactly caught by the change of the friction coefficient and the friction and wear of the tape 1 can be exactly tested without fail.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the rupture, exfoliation and damage of the cut end face of a magnetic layer or back coating layer by providing the cut end face of the magnetic layer or the back coating layer which is retreated inward from the cut end face of a substrate cut to a prescribed shape. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer 12 or the back coating layer is so provided that the cut end face thereof is retreated from the cut end face of the substrate 11. Namely, the cut end face of the magnetic layer 12 is required to be retreated at least by the distance (t) corresponding to the thickness of the magnetic layer 12. While residual cracks are more surely removed as the retreat distance (t) is larger, the retreating of said end face by as much as the distance corresponding to the total thickness T of a magnetic tape 13 suffices. The cutting of the raw film of the magnetic recording medium is thereby satisfactorily executed and the exfoliation and damage of the magnetic layer 12, etc., are obviated. The magnetic recording medium having a high grade and high reliability is thus obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance the measuring accuracy of the max. friction torque, by setting the synthetic torsional stiffness of a rotary shaft driving power source, a disk clamping mechanism, a torque detection means and a rotary power transmitting means to 1,500g.cm/rad or less. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus is constituted by connecting a rotatory power transmitting power source 1, a torque detector 3, a torsion spring 5, a rotary shaft 7 and a disk clamp mechanism 8 and the friction torque due to the sliding contact of a magnetic disk 9 is measured by the friction torque detector 3. The torsional stiffness of the spring 5 is properly adjusted to set the synthetic torsional stiffness of the power transmitting system consisting of the power source 1, the detector 3, the spring 5 and the mechanism 8 to 1,500g.cm/rad or less and the error due to the bending of the disk 9 or the inertial resistance of the mechanism 8 and the disk 9 is reduced. By this method, the max. friction torque at the start time of rotation can be accurately measured with high accuracy.

Thus, the magnetic tape has improved wear resistance, the hard-to-peel solid lubricant and improve durability.

CONSTITUTION:The high molecular material containing about 1-20wt% modified silicon oil composed essencailly of the compound shown in the formulas (one of R1 and R2 is the group of formula II or III and the other is the methyl group; R3 and R5 are alkyl groups of C1-20; R4 is the alkylene group of C1-20) is dissolved into a proper solvent and then coated on the surface of a metallic magnetic thin film containing Co formed on a substrate in about 0.1-1.0mu thickness. As the high molecular material one or more kinds among a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a polyvinyl butyral copolymer and a methacrylate are used. With formation of such film, a magnetic recording medium such as the magnetic tape or the like can be obtained with no reduction of the output caused by a bleed-out phenomenon even at a high temperature and high humidity.
