The concentration of the combustible poison on the radial cross section of the axial area where the nuclear fuel material quantity is relatively smaller is made relatively lower than the concentration of the combustible poison on the radial cross section of another axial area.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in scram reactivity characteristic and to enhance the safety of a nuclear reactor by incorporating burnable poisons in the quantity relatively larger in the axial direction where the nuclear fuel material quantity is relatively large than in the other axial regions. CONSTITUTION:The burnable poisons are incorporated in the region where the nuclear fuel material quantity is large in the quantity larger than the quantity at the point where the nuclear fuel material quantity is small even if the region where the nuclear fuel material quantity is large and the region where the nuclear fuel material quantity is small are generated in the axial direction by incorporating short-sized fuel rods P therein or even if the region where a coolant passage area is small and the region where this area is large are generated in correspondence thereto. Therefore the difference in the output density in the axial direction by the difference in the nuclear fuel material quantity and the coolant passage area is, therefore, offset and the flat output density distribution in the axial direction is obtd. The deterioration in the reactivity characteristic of the control rods inserted from below to the axial direction of the fuel rods is prevented in this way in any cycle of the operation cycles.

    • PURPOSE:To intend to increase fully a burn-up-at-bringing-out of initially charged fuels by using two kinds of fuel assemblies consisting of natural uranium fuels or enriched uranium fuels, and by specifying an arrangement of the natural uranium fuels. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of fuel assemblies, a fuel assembly (type I) charged with a natural uranium and another fuel assembly (type II) charged with an enriched uranium, are arranged as shown by the figure. A part of the type I assemblies are arranged at positions surrounding control rods which are inserted into a reactor core for reactivity regulation or regulation of power distribution during on-power operation. In this an initially charged core, since only type I assemblies are brought out after the first cycle is finished, an amount of residual uranium 235 in the brought-out assemblies can be reduced substantially compared to a conventional one, and a rate of refuelling can be also reduced. Consequently, an in-core staying time of the initially charged fuels and a fuel burn-up can be increased and a fuel economy can be intended to be improved.
