摘要： PURPOSE:To constitute the counter thin film of a color developing layer of a mixture composed of iridium oxide and tungsten oxide, by which the reversible reaction with the coloration and decoloration of a reduction color developing thin film is effected and the thin film is made transparent in a reduced state and is applicable to both the reflection type and transmission type. The color developing layer 7 formed by laminating the reduction color developing thin film 5, the counter thin film 3 which balances oxidation and reduction reactions and a thin dielectric film 4 which is held in place between the thin films 3 and 5. The thin film 5 is constituted of the mixture composed of the iridium oxide and the tungsten oxide. This thin film is formed by simultaneously executing the vapor deposition with metal iridium as a source and the vapor deposition with tungsten oxide as a source in an oxygen-contg. atmosphere.

A pair of electrodes 16 are provided on both sides of the surface of the thin film 14 and lead wires 17 connected thereto are provided as the electrical heating means. The mirror surface is maintained at >=60 deg.C by electrical heating, by which the fogging is prevented.
