    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a liquid storage tank from being deformed by a work gas whose pressure is made high when a superconductive magnet is quenched, prevent the overload operation of a compressor, which results from the feed of a high-pressure work gas into the compressor, and improve the reliability of an extremely low temperature cooling apparatus. SOLUTION: When a superconductive magnet 23 is quenched, a high-pressure on/off valve 25 disposed in a high-pressure pipe 3 interconnecting the outlet port side of a compressor 1 and a liquid helium storage tank 4 having a superconductive magnet 22 disposed therein is put into a closed state. By this method, a work gas whose pressure is made high by the compressor 1 can be prevented from being sent into the liquid helium storage tank 4. Further, when quench is caused, a return side on/off valve disposed in a return pipe 26 interconnecting the suction port side of the compressor 1 and the liquid helium storage tank 4 is put into a closed state. By this method, the overload operation of the compressor, which results from the suction of a high-pressure helium gas into the compressor 1, can be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent fouling and leakage of the working gas for improving the refrigerating performance for a long term operation by furnishing a flexible diaphragm with the inner brim air-tightly fixed around the outer circumference of a rod and the outer brim fixed around the inner circumference of a first cylinder so that a compressive space, whose one end is connect to a cold-heat storage apparatus through a radiator, is formed in the first cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A flexible diaphragm 15 is deformed by reciprocating movement of a rod 11 driven by a driving unit so that the volume of a compressive space 16 is reduced, causing the working gas to be compressed in the compressive space 16. The working gas which becomes high temperature due to compression is led to one end of a cold heat storage apparatus 25 after cooled in a radiator 27, further cooled while passing through the cold storage apparatus 25 and then led into an expansion space 23 by reciprocating movement of an expansion piston 18. The working gas introduced into the expansion space is expanded and generates a refrigerating effect. The moving part which is moved by compressed air to compress the working gas includes only the flexible diaphragm that deforms but not s sliding part, that avoids abrasion which interferes with maintaining a stable refrigerating performance. Moreover, as the compressive space is of an air-tight space with the flexible diaphragm, the working gas is prevented from leaking out of the compressive space and oil and grease from intruding into the compressive space, so that a stable performance can be maintained for a long term operation.
