    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for a real-time monitoring and an electronic control of the concentration of chemical sterilant or disinfectant. SOLUTION: A semiconductor sensing element is mounted in a sterilization chamber 1. A receiving unit monitors the solid-state sensing element and stores a baseline electrical characteristic value corresponding to a baseline concentration of the sterilant at a first set of values of environmental parameters, for example, temperature, pressure, relative humidity, air-flow velocity, an oxidizing substance concentration, and combinations of these. The receiving unit compares changes in the real-time semiconductor sensing element electrical characteristic with the baseline characteristic value to provide a real-time indication of sterilant concentration. A sterilizer control section 12 controls a concentration of sterilant in the sterilization chamber and other sterilization system parameters in accordance with the real-time sterilant concentration from the receiving unit.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel gas phase decontamination system. SOLUTION: The system has a sealable chamber having an inlet port and an outlet port, a closed-loop fluid circuit making a fluid connection with the outlet port of the chamber, a means to circulate a gas through this circuit, and a vaporizer making a fluid connection with the circuit and adjacent to the inlet port delivering a decontaminant vapor into the recirculating carrier gas. Further, the system comprises a monitor for monitoring at least one of temperature, relative humidity, and decontaminant vapor concentration in the chamber. The monitor monitors at least one of relative humidity and decontaminant vapor concentration in the chamber, and the remaining parameters are indirectly monitored outside the chamber. A processor to receive output signals from this monitor, to control a heating means according to the signals, and to control at least temperature of the decontaminant vapor and a carrier gas is also equipped.
