    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner which is simple in processing of a cylinder, and light in weight.
      SOLUTION: A minor diameter hole 11 and a major diameter hole 12 continuing to the minor diameter hole 11 are coaxially provided in the cylinder 10 made of light metal. The cylinder 10 is filled with a working fluid. A cylinder space 14 is formed between the inner periphery of the major diameter hole 12 and the outer periphery of a sleeve 13 by fitting the sleeve 13 in the minor diameter hole 11. A plunger 16 is slidably inserted in the sleeve 13 to partition the sleeve 13 inside into a pressure chamber 17 and a reservoir chamber 18. A chain pressing rod 19 integrally moving with the plunger 16 is provided. A return spring 21 is provided to urge the rod 19 in the projecting direction. A leak gap 32 is formed in the sliding surfaces between the plunger 16 and the sleeve 13. An auxiliary reservoir chamber 27 is formed in the cylinder 10 to communicate with the reservoir chamber 18 via the cylinder space 14. Air and the working fluid are stored in the auxiliary reservoir chamber 27. A relief valve 34 is provided in a release passage 33.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner mounting device, wherein an externally mounting type chain tensioner can be miniaturized and lightened in weight, and relieved hydraulic oil can be returned to an engine compartment.
      SOLUTION: In this chain tensioner mounting device, a flange 12 is formed on the periphery of a housing 11 inserted in the tensioner mounting hole (a) of an engine cover A, and a plunger 15 and a return spring 16 are assembled in the cylinder chamber 14 of the housing 11. A male screw 19 on the periphery of a screw rod 18 is engaged with a sawtooth-shaped female screw 17 on the inner periphery of the opening end part of the plunger 15. An oil feeding passage 26 and a check valve 27 are provided in the housing 11. A valve mounting hole 37 and a pressure relief hole 38 are formed in the flange 12. An oil passage 50 to lead hydraulic oil leaked to the pressure relief hole 38 into the engine cover A is formed on the surface of the flange 12 on which the engine cover A abuts and the periphery of the housing 11.

      SOLUTION: An outside projecting property is provided to a rod 16 through which a seal member 13 fitted to the upper opening of a cylinder 11 is slidably passed by imparting the spring force of a return spring 21 to the rod 16. A plunger 24 slidable in a sleeve 12 fitted to the inside of the cylinder 11 is connected to the lower part of the rod 16. A passage 27 allowing the pressure chamber 25 under the plunger to communicate with the reservoir chamber 26 above the plunger is formed in the plunger 24, and a check valve 28 is installed in the passage 27. A valve seat 32a is disposed in the pressure chamber 25 of the sleeve 12 parallel with a plunger spring 28c pushing up the plunger 24, and a relief valve 32 with a built-in relief valve ball 32b and a built-in relief valve spring 32c is installed in the valve seat.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner used for the camshaft driving chain system of a vehicle engine, particularly a motorcycle engine and capable of suppressing the vibration of a chain by properly holding the tension of the chain.
      SOLUTION: In this chain tensioner 10, a plunger 12 is slidably inserted into a cylinder chamber 11a in a housing 11, the pressure chamber 11b of a plunger 12 on the bottom side is allowed to communicate with a hydraulic damper chamber 12b in a hollow chamber 12a in the plunger 12, and a return spring 13 is installed in a space therebetween. A check valve 14 preventing the reverse flow of a hydraulic oil is installed at the closing end of the cylinder chamber 11a, and a relief valve 20 is installed in the advancing side of the plunger 12 midway to an oil discharge passage communicating with the hydraulic pressure damper chamber 12b. The set pressure range of the relief valve 20 and a set leak clearance 12s between the inner diameter of the cylinder chamber 11a and the outer diameter of the plunger are set in prescribed ranges matching the wide ranges of variation in pressure and temperature.
