    • PURPOSE:To maintain the service life of sealing materials for a long period of time by providing mutually independent sealing devices to the water feed part and drain part of the cooling water passages of a casting mold and constituting the upper sealing device in such a manner that said device can be disposed in the upper part. CONSTITUTION:The plural cooling water passages 2 are juxtaposed in the vertical direction in a molten metal guiding member 1. The upper and lower apertures thereof are closed by plug bodies 4. Communicating holes 3 for each of the passages 2 are arrayed to the top and bottom ends. A cooling passage 6 along the transverse direction independent from each other, the sealing devices 7 to mutually independently enclose the upper and lower passages 6 as well as the cooling water supply port 8 and cooling water discharge port 9 communicating with the passages 6 are provided to the top and bottom ends of a backup frame 5. Each of the sealing devices 7 is constituted by mounting the sealing material 10 into a sealing material mounting groove 10 and interposing the sealing material 11 between the molten metal guiding member 1 and the backup frame 5. The deterioration of the sealing material by the increased temp. is thereby obviated and the good sealing effect is maintained if the upper sealing material 11 is disposed above the molten surface fluctuating region by averting said region.

    • PURPOSE:To descale excellently a hot slab without causing a large temperature drop by installing a gas injection type descaling device between the pinch rolls of a continuous casting line and a hot flaw detector and specifying the conditions of gas pressure, gas flow rate, and gas injection. CONSTITUTION:A descaling device 4 installed between pinch rolls 2 and a hot flaw detector 3 is constituted of a nozzle header 41, a holder 42, a gas supplying source 43, and a rocking mechanism 44. And the holder 42 for supporting the nozzle header 41 is supported freely slidably in the width direction of a slab to be reciprocated in the width direction of the slab by the mechanism 44. Next, plural nozzles 411 of the header 41 are disposed by slanting their angles by 5- 90 deg. with respect to the surface of the slab toward the upstream side of the advancing direction of the slab. Further, the gas pressure of a gas supplying source 43 is set to >=2.0kg/cm and its flow rate is also set to >=0.5Nl/min.mm. per unit area of the slab. In this way, the surface of hot slab is primarily, rapidly cooled by a high speed gas flow to heat shrink the thin scale on the slab surface and strip off the scale thereby removing it by the high speed gas flow.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent effectively the oxidation of a molten metal without causing thermal deformation in the stage of casting a high melting metal by forming a charging spout of a twin-belt continuous casting machine into the monolithic construction wherein the outside circumference of refractories is supported by a square cylinder-shaped heat-and oxidation-resistant metal. CONSTITUTION:The bottom, right and left side parts and ceiling part of a spout for a charging device of a twin-belt continuous casting machine are formed of laminated walls consisting of an inside layer 9 of a refractory material and an outside layer 10 of a heat- and oxidation-resistant metal into a square cylindrical shape. Header pipes 12 for supplying sealing gas are attached in the upper and lower part of the layer 10, and the pipes 12 and plural fine holes 11 for flowing gas are connected by means of branch pipes 13. An inert gas or the like is supplied into the holes 11 and is ejected from the opening at the top end of the spout in the stage of supplying a molten metal. Then the meniscus part in the continuous casting machine is easily maintained under a nonoxidative atmosphere whereby the oxidation of the molten metal is prevented. A thin billet having high quality is thus produced with good workability.
