    • PURPOSE:To make effective operation at a wide dynamic range possible, by bringing automatically an input impedance higher when the level of an optical signal input is low and said impedance lower when the level is high. CONSTITUTION:A resistor 4 in a feedback circuit is a variable resistance element whose resistance value is changed depending on the flowing current therethrough. When the optical signal input level of a photodiode 1 is low, a current flowing to the resistor 4 is small, a resistance value Rf is high, an input impedance of a negative feedback amplifier is high and a large voltage is generated at the input of an smpligirt 3. When the input level becomes higher, the current of the resistor 4 is large and the resistance value Rf is lower. Thus, the input impedance of the negative feedback amplifier is low, the input voltage to the amplifier 3 is small, the gain of the negative feedback amplifier is decreased and the saturation region of the amplifier 3 is increased. Thus, the input impedance of the negative feedback amplifier is changed automatically, the low signal is amplified suitably and the amplifier is not saturated even if the input signal level is high.
