    • PURPOSE:To monitor a light signal even when the direction of sent light is inverted by providing optical fibers for incidence and projection on one end surface of a rod lens and a reflecting film on the opposite end surface, and providing a partially transparent part in its center and arranging a photodetecting element opposite the lens end surface. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 10A for incidence and optical fiber 10B for projection are connected one end surface of the rod lens 11 having nearly 1/4-pitch length, the reflecting film 13 made of an Au film, etc., is provided on the other end surface except a small circular opening as the transparent part 12, and the photodetecting element 14 is arranged in contact on the reflecting film formation surface side of the rod lens 11. Luminous flux 15 which is projected, therefore, travels in the rod lens 11 while drawing a nearly sine curve, the reflecting film 13 reflects part of the light, and the reflected light travels along a different path from the incidence path and is then converted and made incident on the optical fiber 10B for projection. Further, the light which is transmitted through the transparent part 12 is made incident on the photodetection surface 14A of the photodetecting element 14 and its reflected light does not return to the transparent part 12. Consequently, sent light beams in both directions can be detected by one photodetecting element.

    • PURPOSE:To improve an isolation characteristic by obtaining such structure that a part of the end surface of a rod lens is obliquely cut off, the surface of the rod lens is roughed or a swollen part having the same refractive index is attached. CONSTITUTION:The second rod lens 12 has the structure that a part of the end surface of the rod lens is obliquely cut off so as to include a symmetric position by interposing an optical axis with respect to a second optical fiber 5. A part of light proceeding to a ground surface 14 is reflected on a B part. However, the direction of the reflected light is out of an original optical path by the oblique ground surface 14. Then, when the angle of the oblique ground surface 14 is set so that the light arrives at the side surface of the rod lens before arriving at a beam splitter film 3 in the second rod lens 12, the light reflected on the B part gets out at the side surface of the rod lens or it is reflected to the inside of the rod lens again and the light is not returned to the optical fibers 4 and 5. As the result, the isolation characteristic is drastically improved.
