    • PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber core having a high bending characteristic by forming the orientation distribution of a secondary coat in its radius direction so that the orientation is relatively low in an outer surface part separated from a strand and it is relatively high in the inside of the coat layer. CONSTITUTION:A fiber strand 2 is supplied from a fiber strand feeder 1 and coated with thermoplastic resin at a part fed from a cross head die 3. The thermoplastic resin 5 for secondary coat is sheared by shearing force during the passage of it through a straight part 4 of the die 3 and pulled down at a part fed from the die 3, so that the resin 5 is highly efficiently orientated by the shearing force and extending force and applied to the surface of the fiber strand. After completing the coating processing, the temperature of the secondary coat layer is dropped less than a crystal/liquid crystal transfer point by air cooling, and after fixing the orientation, the outer surface part of the core is heated by an electric heater 6 and then solidified by a cooling tank 7. Then, the solidified fiber is wound around a core winder 8 as a core. Since the orientation distribution of the secondary coat layer of the optical fiber is formed so that the orientation on the outer surface part is low and that of the inside of the coat layer is high, the bending characteristic is remarkably improved as compared to an ordinary secondary coat layer.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress the combustibility and deformation of a plastic tube by winding a plastic tube which has a high elasticity modulus and a low coefficient of linear expansion as the secondary coating layer of a single core cable with a flame-resistant tape by pressing. CONSTITUTION:This cable is provided with an optical fiber 1, primary coating layer with a low elastic modulus, air layer 3, secondary coating layer 4 which is increased in high elastic modules and decreased in coefficient of linear expansion by being heated dielectrically and drawn, flame-resistant tape 5, and plastic sheath 6. The secondary coating layer 4 protects the optical fiber 1 and serves as a tensile strength material and a compressive material against mechanical strength which operates on the cable lengthwise. Further, there is the air layer 3 formed between the primary coating layer 2 and secondary coating layer 4, so the secondary coating layer 4 becomes flat to lateral pressure and collapses eventually. An increase in tube diameter at right angles to the lateral pressure is suppressed to increase greatly the lateral pressure at which the collapse occurs.
