SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises at least one biodegradable polysaccharide, flame-retardant additive(s) comprising at least one of inorganic flame-retardant compound, boric acid-based flame-retardant compound, halogen-based flame-retardant compound, organic flame-retardant compound, colloidal flame-retardant compound and nitrogen-based flame-retardant compound, and at least one hydrolysis inhibitor for the polysaccharide(s). In this resin composition, the polysaccharide is selected from cellulose, starch, chitin, chitosan, dextran, one of derivatives thereof and copolymers containing at least one of them mentioned above, and the hydrolysis inhibitor is a carbodiimide compound, an isocyanate compound or an oxazoline compound.

SOLUTION: This resin is obtained by compounding polylactic acid as an aliphatic polyester resin with 5.0-20.0 wt.% natural mica, 0.5-5.0 wt.% aliphatic carboxylic acid amide as the organic nucleating agent and 0.1-2.0 wt.% carbodiimide compound as the hydrolysis suppressing agent for polylactic acid. As an example, 10 wt.% granulated mica powder having 40-50 μm particle diameter and obtained by granulating natural mica, 1 wt.% Carbodiright (R) and 1 wt.% ethylenebisstearic acid amide as the organic nucleating agent and compounded in polylactic acid (Tg: 60 deg.C); thereby the storage elastic modulus of this resin at 70-140 deg.C is much improved and, especially at about 100 deg.C to about 120 deg.C, is about 1×109. The biodegradable resin is useful as a raw material for household electric appliances and packaging materials and the like.

SOLUTION: In this biodegradable resin composition, polylactic acid which is an aliphatic polyester resin is blended with granulated mica obtained by using an acrylic resin as a binder as natural mica. It is preferable to bring the blending amount of natural mica to be 5.0-30.0 wt.% and its average particle size to be 15-140 μm. A carbodiimide compound is preferably added as a hydrolysis inhibitor to the polylactic acid. According to an example, powdery granulated mica (containing 0.8 wt.% urethane resin binder) obtained by granulating natural mica having 40-50 μm particle size is added to a polylactic acid in 10 wt.% and a storage elastic modulus at a high temperature is remarkably increased. The biodegradable resin composition is useful as elemental materials for household electric appliances, rectangular body materials and the likes.
