    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inverter with high accuracy, high reliability and whose fault is diagnosed at a high speed by detecting and using an information signal at a period other than a noise production period of the inverter. SOLUTION: A mask circuit 6 masks an information signal representing a state amount of the inverter 50 required to generate a control signal for controlling the inverter 50 using a switching circuit 3 only for a period when a switching noise signal is generated from the switching circuit 3 repeating ON/OFF operation. Then a comparator circuit 5 compares the unmasked information signal by the mask circuit 6 with a stored reference value in advance. For example, it is diagnosed that a temperature is faulty, a gate control signal such as a switching stop command or a switching reduction command is outputted to a gate circuit 2 to diagnose properly and quickly the presence of a fault. The information signal is detected except a minimum noise production period in this way so as to avoid instantaneous destruction of the switching element.

    • PURPOSE:To conduct the detection of a current by an ON resistance of FET with high accuracy invariably irrespective of a change in temperature, by supplying a source current to FET for current detection thermally-coupled to another FET for switching and by controlling this current. CONSTITUTION:In a motor-operated power steering system for automobiles, a load 2 made up of a DC motor is chopper-controlled by a main FET 3 which is ON-FF controlled by a gate signal supplied from a control unit, and a current I1 flowing through the load 2 on the occasion is detected from a source current I2 of a sub-FET 4 thermally-coupled to the main FET 3. The sub-FET 4 is ON-OFF controlled at the same timing as the main FET 3 by the gate signal supplied to the main FET 3 and it operates to make the source current I2 flow. A differential amplifier 5 receives the respective source voltages V1 and V2 of the main FET 3 and the sub-FET 4 as inputs, generates an output voltage V0 corresponding to a voltage difference between the voltages V1 and V2 and supplies the source current I2 of a prescribed value to the sub-FET 4. A resistor 6 generates a voltage drop due to this source current I2 as a current detection voltage V1.
