    • PURPOSE: To obtain easily an IR transmittable material contg. no impurities by heating and melting the IR transmittable material contg. impurities in a dry gas, and filtering the same with a quartz glass filter then solidifying the filtrate.
      CONSTITUTION: An IR transmittable material 3, such as alkali halide, contg. impurities is housed in a filter. An inert dry gas such as hydrogen, argon, nitrogen or the like is introduced after removal of dust into the device through the gas introducing port in the lower part thereof. The inside of a furnace core tube 9 is replaced with the dry gas and thereafter the material 3 s heated while the introduction of the gas is continued. The material melted by the heating is filtered by passing a quartz glass filter 1 and is collected in a quartz crucible 1. The filtrate is cooled to solidify and the IR transmittable material of high quality from which foreign materials such as org. material, carbon particle, SiO
      2 or the like are removed is obtd.
