    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for supporting a catalyst, which can attain both of a durability and a facility of supporting the catalyst (catalyst support performance) at a high level. SOLUTION: The carrier for supporting the catalyst is obtained by carbonating a raw material containing a nitrogen-containing organic substance and a metal. In the carrier for supporting the catalyst, a peak in the vicinity of a diffraction angle 26° in an X-ray diffraction diagram may contain 20-45% structural components similar to black lead and 55-80% amorphous components. Further, in the carrier for supporting the catalyst, the intensity ratio (I 1,360 /I 1,580 ) of 1,360 cm -1 band in Raman spectrum to 1,580 cm -1 band may be ≥0.3 and ≤1.0 also. Furthermore, the carrier for supporting the catalyst can be also obtained by applying a metal removing treatment to the carbonated material obtained by the carbonation of the raw material, and further, applying a heat treatment.
