摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing method and a recording/reproducing apparatus which enable the performance of a drive system to be improved and error correction capability to be enhanced, and to provide a computer readable recording medium whereon a program for performing the method is recorded.
SOLUTION: The data recording/reproducing method comprises: recording/reproducing a recording unit block in which invalid data is partially padded, on/from the information recording medium; and updating valid data included in the recording unit block on the basis of the padding information indicating that the invalid data is included in the recording unit block. Thus, unnecessary retrial processes of the drive system are reduced.

SOLUTION: Plural sectors 3 are arranged on a track 2, and each sector 3 is provided successively with a guard data recording area recording the guard data and a data recording area 5 containing a synchronizing signal, and the user data continuing to the synchronizing signal. The guard data in the guard data recording area are the same as the recording pattern of the synchronizing signal, and the phase of the recording pattern is continued at the boundary between the guard data recording area and the data recording area.

摘要： When a recording capacity of an optical disc is increased, the increased part of the addresses cannot be represented by the number of bits used for representing the address information of a conventional optical disc. Hence, an address format capable of representing the increased part of the addresses while being compatible with the conventional address format with the same number of bits is proposed. In an optical disc according to the present invention, a track on which data is recordable is divided into a plurality of blocks, and each block includes L pieces of sub blocks. On each sub block, M-bit first digital information specifying a block address of a block including the each sub block and N-bit second digital information capable of representing a numerical value equal to or larger than L are recorded. Where a value of the block address is smaller than a threshold value, the second digital information represents a value specifying a number pre-assigned to the each sub block; whereas where the value of the block address is equal to or larger than the threshold value, the second digital information represents a value other than the value specifying the number pre-assigned to the each sub block. Or, where the value of the block address is equal to or larger than the threshold value, the second digital information represents the value specifying the number pre-assigned to the each sub block; whereas where the value of the block address is smaller than the threshold value, the second digital information represents a value other than the value specifying the number pre-assigned to the each sub block.

摘要： In a read-only area, each track is divided into sector regions having a same capacity. An error correction code is added to a first data signal to constitute a second data signal, which is recorded in each sector region by forming a pit array. In a rewritable area, user data to be recorded is made to correspond to the first data, to which the same error correction code as that in the read-only area is added, to constitute the second data signal as in the read-only area. A data signal for rendering the signal rewritable is added to the resultant signal, to constitute a third data signal. A header region representing address information of the sector is added to the region for recording the third data signal, to form a rewritable format. The optical disk is divided into two areas in the radial direction; the rewritable area on the outer circumference side and the read-only area on the inner circumference side. A control data signal is recorded in the read-only area.
